This winter i am taking my 2g motor out and building a 1g 4g63-t ... i have searched for a half hour now looking for specific answers but havent had any luck...

I am looking to see if there is a specific year 1g motor that will be better than the others... i know they are almost identical but i was wondering if there's any difference. I headed to the junkyard soon to find a motor... opinions would be appreciated.

My other question is... my car is currently FWD and i would like it to be AWD.. i have put way to much money into the body to just sell it.. but was wondering if its going to be that expensive to convert to AWD... i know i would have a trans, clutch, driveshaft, suspension, axles, transfer case.. and all that... sounds expensive and thats why i was also wondering if 1g parts will bolt up to a 2g chassis. I was told the cars were shorter but didnt know if it was true or not. Thanks for your help.... any input will be much needed!

Well. . . what you are truly looking for isn't just a 1g motor. It's a 6bolt motor. Found in the pre april of 92 dsm's.

You can tell by either the oil pan for sure, or by the bolts on the flywheel.

But if you look for a 90-91 dsm you're set on finding a 6bolt.

As for drivetrain, i'm not sure. I would imagine it's the same chassis though.

Harriz801 - the awd swap had been done on a fwd a handful of times but, like you said is expensive. I have hard of a few spyders that recieved an awd conversion down in San Diego. If you got the time and money go ahead and research they total difference of 2g fwd and awd differences. But, most importanly before you start this make sure you have all the resourses.

Like staticbrainwash said - the 6 bolt block is the one you are looking for. If you are unable to find any locally there are plenty of guys around the U.S. that sell them. Jdm motors will be the same as our usdm motors except maybe 50,000 +or- 10,000 miles. Find whatever you can get at a good price as 6bolt motors are getting very rare in alot of areas. Good luck!

edit: No. Ig parts will not work on a 2g chassis

Check the tech articles section, there's at least one write up on the awd swap. It's been done ALOT more often than you think. You will need a 2g awd donor car, you cannot use 1g awd parts for the conversion.

Okay... well my first main focus is building my 6 bolt then... i plan on heading down to some junk yards in Detriot MI, and Kalamazoo MI to see if i can find something at a junk yard... i plan on putting an eagle crank in it but is there really a huge advantage to an eagle crank vs. o.e.m. 6 bolt. I want to fully build this thing, 6 bolt block, eagle crank, eagle rods, JP Pistons, bore 20 over... and hopefully a 16 g.... should i look for a motor that was still running or if im doing all this does it even matter...

Why an eagle crank?? There's no point if you're only running a 16g.

There's really no point unless you're running some CRAZY hp.

Stick with the stock crank.

Look around (if you need proof as to why use stock) at all the package motors from all the major dsm motor builders. I know for sure buschur and sbr use stock cranks.

That tells you something.

Oh okay... i guess i didnt realize that... i dont plan on having anything over 400 hp... but you know how that goes... once you reach that you want more but... i guess ill start looking around for motors... should i look for a motor will all the intake manifold, sensors, exhaust manifold and all the motor mounts n stuff or should i just be looking for a block...

Try to find a complete motor with all the accesories. You need to use alot of them. Might even find a nice 14b and say screw the 16g....

Okay... well ive got a 14 b here at my house right now that im working on getting together... is there a huge difference between a 16g and a 14 b?... im sure the 16 can take more boost.
