Full Race manifold (or copy), upper Radiator hose?

I have a Full Race manifold copy. And I recently noticed that on their website, it says "Upper radiator hose must be modified in order to clear the runners on the manifold". I just got mine installed last night, and the upper radiator hose is just laying on the #3 runner. As a temporary fix, I have the radiator hose wrapped in about 6 layers of header wrap. This is no means of a permanent fix - I want to do this the right way.

My question to you other 2G Full Race users: How do you modify the upper radiator hose to make it work correctly?

Any help/pics/advice would be greatly appreciated. :dsm:

PS - I'll try to get some pics up today or tomorrow.

I found this on a quick search. It looks like flex hose is the best option:

Can't wait to see your new beast up and running.
Thanks, Andy.

I actually just took a stroll out into the warehouse and pulled one of those off the shelf. I have it sitting here on my desk, and I can't get it to make a tight enough bend. It seems the stock radiator house is molded with a tighter bend than this steel hose is capable of producing.

I also considered putting together a set-up of all AN fittings and hose (like what Shep and many others run), but the price tag is just too salty for my liking. That would only be a last resort.

I might even stop at my local Napa or Autozone after work, and see about buying some kind of raditor hose with a very tight initial bend. I'm sure I could modify something to fit.

Sorry that wasn't a good solution Paul.

Barring that, why not have something mandrel bent at a local exhaust shop that will be a custom fit to your application? You can use rad hose as an initial coupler, add the pipe and then join it to the radiator inlet with another piece of radiator hose. That way you won't lose flow since it'll have a mandrel bend and the same angle on all sides of the bend. It should be pretty easy to make a template, bring it to a shop and have them make it in the right diameter for you. You could even have it chromed for more bling bling (I know you like that).

Watcha think kiddo?

who makes this full race copy that you are talking about...where did you get it from...how much did it cost you...more details please...thanks...

Damn good idea, Andy. I have plenty of mandrel bends here at work, so I could probably put something together today. I think this is the most solid idea as of yet. But I'm still waiting for the west cost to wake up, so I can call Full Race and see what they have up their sleeve.

This is the one I got. I paid $389 for it, and I'm very satisfied with it thus far.

Paul, I spent some time looking around the Full Race site and didn't see anything with respect to radiator hose setups, but they may have something laying around. If you do go mandrel bent stainless, I think you'll get exactly the right fit the first time around and it shouldn't be too expensive.

Keep me posted pal.

i remember seeing a manifold on alienauto.com that required a custom upper hose that they made out of ss or something...but when you go on there website now...it looks like it has been taken over by a new company or a new name...try getting in contact with them...

Well, I just got in contact with Full Race. They basically gave me the same advice of Andy's most recent idea. Use a series of cut up steel/aluminum bends with the stock radiator hose, and basically just reroute it around the manifold.

you might think of trying a 1g radiator as the inlet is farther towards the passanger side.
That idea crossed my mind as well. But I wasn't sure if the thickness of the radiators was the same, or if the mounting points were all the same....

I'll take a SS j-pipe home with me tonight and see what I can fab up.

Good deal Paul. When you get something working, snap some pics so we can have a look. I bet it'll look great and do the job.

get in touch with alien auto and see what they say...also does that manifold come stock with the v band flange for the wastegate...or did you rig that up yourself...

It's sucks that we send all this money for a dope manifold only to jump threw hoops to have a clean and proper install.

I bought a T-3 Turbonetics mani last year, I had to get longer manifold studs, grind away part of the altenator bracket to fit in on the head, than had to cut away part of my hood support to clear the 38mm tial. Talk about a $300 "Bolt on"! Just sucks to see you my need a 1g radiator to be have a proper fit, Well it's a good time to upgrade into a Koyo or Fluidyne.

No, it came with the square, 40mm flange. I hacked it off and welded on the 44mm v-band flange.

That's just so bling. Looks great with the wastegate mount as well.
Here's some bling for ya. My personal favorite.

I like shiney stuff, like a deer to headlights :D

Paul, does that manifold's WG line tap only to the #2/3 exhaust runners or does it open up to a collector at that point?

Are you going to wrap the header or leave it be? :dsm:

New setup looks good paul. How is the turbo working out for you? I hope great LOL. I thought the pic on the full race site had a different radiator but I guess it doesn't. it seems like you are going to have to go with the mandrel bent route. I think it would look good. All the supras guys do it and it looks great.

Why not buy a small radiator? You could try some of that flexible hosing from places like Napa or Checker.
Good suggestion, but he tried this in Post#3 and would not bend tight enough.

Another suggestion.. maybe weld a tight radius 45* elbow to the radiator inlet just to get a bend away from the manifold. You should then be able to use regular pre-bent radiator hose.

I've heard stories of those manifolds baking the paint right off the hood, so may want to source some of that self-adhesive reflective heat shielding if not wrapping :dsm:

Not sure if Im too late, or if you have already seen this but I found this, might help out some to give to an idea of the angle needed. Hope that might help some Paul. Also just my .02, I would do a 45* or 90* piece of hose comming off the radiator, then work it from there so it will be far enough away from the manifold.

Thats what I was thinking as well, but since he will probably still be going with the mandrel bent metal piping. But I figured it would be a decent pic so he could get an idea of the angling needed. But I would heat wrap the piping, or upper radiator hose anyway just to keep it cool as possible.
