Last night I replaced my TB shaft seals because of a leak test I did last week. I heard leaking around the TB, but couldn't feel anything and narrowed it down to possible seal leakage.
First of all, let me say that this is the biggest PITA for such a small job. My throttle plate did NOT want to slide back into the shaft at all. I almost smashed the TB with a large hammer trying to get those springs wound up and back on. Anway..on to the problem.
When I started the car there was a rather large hiss coming from the TB area. It sounds a little like a boost leak does when the system is under pressure. (keep in mind this is at idle)
Also, my idle is all over the damn place all of a sudden. I didn't move the throttle stop, and I set the TPS just as the manual says, which I have done before without any problem.
My main question is, could the hissing sound be caused by air rushing past the throttle plate. Like I said I REALLY had to work to get the plate back in there. I am wondering if my throttle plate is on upside down or something, or if it really matters all that much. I do know that the correct side is facing the passenger side of the car.
Could someone that has a close up picture of a throttle body please post it up if possible, and if anyone knows what the hell could be going on here please chime in. Thanks.
Phil
