I wasent able to build boost and found out that the internal wastegate that I got with my agp rs49t goes in and out freely, like it is not attached to the spring inside. Has anyone had problems like this with the agp internal WG or any other internal. Is there an easy fix to it or it sound like I need a new one? BTW it has only been on there for about 500mi

Welcome to the club.

I've already dealt with 3-4 failures (+1 for myself)

The way actuator arm is attached, it will have some free movement when not under tension. However, when it's on the flapper arm, it should be under tension constantly. I doesn't fail abruptly. It looses more and more travel over time (and you have to reajust arm to keep tension on it) and eventually just doesn't open flapper enough to effectively control boost. Most cases I've seen took about 3-4 months to loost their boost-control ability. In your case though, it looks more like diphragm or spring failure. There is a C-clip holding that actuator together. You can remove it and take it apart to check diaphragm and spring.

I have that setup. I have never heard of this but it's good to know in case i ever run into a boost problem.

According to one of the techs at AGP, they have never heard of a problem like that with their WG. So much for getting my car dyno tuned on sat :(

Is it the newer billet style wastegates that they use on all their turbo kits? If so, all parts of that gate are serviceable. I follow the SRT forums pretty closely, where most of their internal gates are used, and these types of failures are uncommon.

Also, did they offer to service the wastegate? I know it sucks that it failed, and that you won't be able to dyno, but will the problem be correct in a satisfactory manner?

There is no warranty for the WG, but AGP told me to mail it to them so they can look at it to see if they can fix it.

Well, I sent in my wastegate to agp they said the rod for the wg was bent so they put a new one on there. I now can only get it up to about 20-21 psi. I called them back and the tech said that the internals cant hold any more that that. I want to get to 28psi. The tech said I need to go to external to get to that psi. From what I remember from when I purchased it the tech said their internal can be adjusted from 15-30 psi. Does this sound right?

I have ran 30 psi on three different turbos (47trim, 50 trim, HX35) all on internal wastegates.

I've had an rs49t for 2 years now (I have the "newer" billet actuator). I've run as high as 25 psi and as low as 14 psi. The wastegate is adjustable, you must tighten it to achieve higher boost levels.

The only problem I have had with the actuator is a torn diaphram which caused a nice sized boost leak. I purchased a replacement diaphram for $35. I've had no other problems in 2 years.

Hey turborcharged, what's your setup other than the turbo and what kind of numbers are you gettting (hp/1/4 mile)? I have the same turbo but i rarely see any concrete numbers from other users. What kind of boost do you run daily?

You can find my major mods in my profile. I havent been to the track or dyno on this setup but I get 45 lb/min by 6,800 rpms. I've been told this is good for about 400hp but I can only speculate. I run 23psi daily.

I'm looking to upgrade the turbo BTW. It really doesn't like much over 25 psi.

It doesn't? What makes you say that? I was planning on turning it up to 25+ with race gas. I curently run 21-22 daily on 93.

I start to see knock with anything over 25 psi. At 25 psi, the turbo pushes 45 lb/min which is WAY out of it's efficiency range for a 2.4L at 6,800 rpms. The 50 trim is more efficient with a 2.0. Water injection and a big FMIC are the only reasons I can run that high of boost on pump gas.

I have never tried race gas. I want my car to be a fast daily driver that can run on 93 everyday.

Oh ok, yeah knock at 25 psi with pump gas ain't nothing to complain about.

Thanx for the info man.
