so i put on a new Dejon_tool FMIC and fluidyne radiator when i replaced my turbo (AGP RS-60), and my car acts like it wants to overheat but it dosent quite get hot enough. im thinking that the new intercooler is so big that its blocking air from getting to the radiator, and i only have 1 radiator fan in it right now (i got a slimline sitting in the house though). I also dont have an oil cooler on the car either because my last one got messed up with the old engine, and i couldnt afford a new one at the time i replaced the engine.

think the FMIC is too big and i need to make some ducting for it? or is it possibly somthing bigger? also it runs cooler the harder i push it but when im crusing around 2-3k RPM it runs hot.

thanks.

I guess the basics 1st. How is the coolant system(full, rad cap working, Thermostat good, ext.)? Do you still have A/C? If you do you will need to upgrade the stock fan. All though a dual slim line fan is always a good upgrade for better cooling.

Actually, assuming you can fit the stock fan, leave it. The stock fan will flow more air then most aftermarket slim lines. Like Koho said, check the coolant system. If that all checks out, look into removing the condenser (for the A/C), possibly cutting the bumper for more air flow, or you just might need to run another fan.

Is the intecooler core properly sized? I've seen alot guys with Dsm run intercoolers that were to large to begin with. Seems to me that they like looking fast and hurting the car at the same time. Being fast means nothing if the car doesn't functions right thas why I'm taking my sweet old time upgrading my Dsm.

If your cooling system is operating properly then you shouldn't have any problems with a large FMIC. I would replace the cap and thermostat just to be safe, and make sure your fans are coming on when they are supposed to.

My brothers car on the right. His intercooler is pretty big (24x12x3.5 core) and there was no increase in coolant temps after we installed it.

It ran fine before because you had all that extra room for air flow with the small greddy fmic. I recommend you install that fan and make some kind of duct that will flow air to radiator, trust it is worth it, unless you want to warp your head :barf:

I put a SBR front mount on a few months back and I had a similar problem. It just ran hotter than it was normally running with the SMIC. I flushed the coolant system and installed a new thermostat and got no change with either. I found a small tear in the rubber on the radiator cap later on. Put a new one on and bingo right back to normal temp. Note, I have a new water pump and only the stock fan to cool the rad at that time. :talon: Just my experience.

i had the same problem last summer when i threw my fmic on. You need to keep your 1 stock fan in and mount a slim one next to it. Remove your ac condenser as well, you can wire them to a switch like i did if you want. your overheating issue will go away...

the people that have had cooling problems, is you FMIC a bar and plate style? or tube and fin?

to be sure the AC condenser is located between the FMIC and the radiator corect.?

When you say it runs hot, what temp are you actually seeing? Is it from your logger or from the factory temp gauge? I ask because the factory temp gauge is fairly inaccurate but a logger will tell you your actual temp. In any case, make sure you still have ducting to force air to go through your radiator otherwise you will see higher temps while cruising. Stop and go should be fine since the fan is coming on and off anyway. Just my opinion.
