I'm trying to remove rubber fuel line that goes from the tank to the hard line but the fitting on the hard line is rusted. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. What are my choices? PB blaster, wd40 didn't help. I'm starting to strip the nuts on both fittings. I'm affraid to use a torch to heat it up since there's still fuel in the lines. Cutting it off seems little drastic since I'm going to have to re-flair the end and find a longer hose. What to do, what to do?
 
Mine was pretty rusted too. I sprayed the connections with PB waited the night then sprayed it again and used two wrenches one I braced up against something like this

I had to then have someone hold that steady on there and really wrench on the other finally got it she was pretty beat up but I've seen worse.

i attacked it from the bottom fitting and mine was rusted and used PB on it for 2 days straight. The hardline started to twist so i stopped and never touched it since. I even used flare nut wrenches. How would you use vice grips on it?
 
i highly doubt you would have stripped it by using flare wrenches and a can and a half of pb blaster... let that thing soak overnight, keeping it drenched... i've never come across something pb blaster couldn't handle... :thumb:
 
I just had the same problem last week and I recently had it resolved. My car spent all its life but 2 years up north, the rust was tremendous. First of all, flare wrenches are a must. I tried finding a way around it and I couldn't. You NEED the flare wrenches. And spray it with PB blaster and leave it till the following day. I had to spray it each day and let it stay over night for 2 days. When I gave it a try my third time, it loosened up immediatley. Give it some patience if you have a lot of rust, you don't want to strip the fitting or break the hardline. Hope this helped.
 
are you talking about the line from the sending unit? if you are, let it soak for a couple days like everyone else said. i broke my hard pipe and its a bi*** trying to find a new sending unit... good luck
 
MAKE SURE U TAKE UR TIME!! i tried just leaving it for a 1hr that my fuking hard twisted and broke. i even used flare wrenchs and the bolts was starting to strip also. took me forever to find another sending unit and all the studs holding down the send unit broke with it. i had to buy a tank and sending unit. patience is the key. :cry: wosre thing i had come upon when working on dsm.
 
I'm in the same boat. I.ve been spraying that fitting for the last 2 weeks. I plan to try to break it loose tomorrow. If it acts like it's gonna snap I may cut the line in the straight section above the sending unit and put a small peice of rubber hose over the ends with hose clamps to re-assemble it. I'm not telling you to do it, because I don't know if it will work. I'll re-post tomorrow with the results.

It works great :thumb: . I used a cut-off wheel on a demel and cut the line halfway between the fitting and the bend down towards the top of the unit. When I put it together I just used a small peice of rubber hose and two hose clamps.
