fuel pump wiring question

heres the deal, i bought a new fuel pump assembly from a guy, when got it i found out that the electrical plug was cut off.......... so i had to cut the plug from my old one off and connect the two somehow...... well, what i did was splice the wires and heat shrink them....... i got the car running but then it just shuts off......... the power wire(black with white strip) is hot as hell....... all the other wires are fine but the power wire is hot as hell by the part where i spliced it and connected it...... any help would be appreciated

How did you splice the wires?
Considering how much current the pump draws, this is a good place for soldering rather than crimping.

Make sure its not grounding out somewhere, like getting crimped in between the pump assembly and the tank.
