toronto,
Is it worth buying the one made for the 97 eclipse ($400), or should i just buy 2X12" universal fans from FAL ($200)?

If i were to purchase 2 12 inchers, how complicated is the install/wiring?

The nice thing about the $400 setup is that it bolts straight on.

The $200 setup isn't so straightforward.

FAL has 2 versions of the cheaper setup. The slightly more expensive one has an adjustable thermorst.

I'm pretty sure all 3 have the same fans & shroud.

I use the $400 setup... and then bought the adjustable thermostat afterwards.

The slimness, the fan shroud, and the metal fan motor heat shields really make these systems stand out.

Oh, and wiring is a breeze. You'll figure it out easily.

I believe FAL sells a universal version of their dual FAN bolt in kits.
It's basically the same as the bolt in kit--comes with a shroud--but doesn't have the recesses grinded out to clear both inlet and outlet on our radiators.
However, when you look at it, it is exactly the same unit, the bolt in kit, having small indentations to clear the in/outlets.

From what I rememeber at my local race shop, this dual fan version with shroud is just slightly more expensive than buying 2 seperate 12s. The shroud is what makes this attractive. You'll have to grind some of the shroud away, and you'll probably have to make some really simple bracket to mount, but it'd be the same in the end.

just fyi

The 2 x 12 FAL OEM units are the same as the 2 x 12 Universal with the exception of the clearance issue for the inlet and outlet hose for the radiator.

Personally I'd save the $150 - $200 and use a knife to cut out the excess material around the radiator inlet/outlet areas on the shroud. You'll also need to cut the excess rubber molding which goes around the entire shroud on the universal.

The OEM version only has molding on the left and right sides where as in the universal it goes around the entire shroud. The other minor difference is the name on the OEM fan is FAL and the universals are Flex-A-Lite. Other than that they are identical.

Keep in mind the OEM FAL fans will still require the same rewiring as the universal, the OEM FAL fans do not have stock connectors.
