yeah used is the best was. just expect the secton that is supposed to bolt to the cat to be cut off.

I bought a full 3" w/ o2 elim for $800, new. And that was cheap, so I would also say buy it used.

All depends on how loud you are willing to deal with. I got a Dynomax bullet (23" w/3"in/out) from Summit for $15 after rebate. Had a muffler shop weld it up and turned it down in front of the gas tank, where the stock exhaust took a 90 degree turn toward the pass. side of the car. Very nice sound, but pretty loud. Now that I have a full 3" system, it is even louder. I bought a 2.5" O2 housing w/external dump from Turbo-performance (when they were still $89) and a 3" downpipe from them as well. Had the shop make me a custom 3" "cat" using some 3" pipe and the heatshield from the stock cat. The whole setup cost me less than $400, including labor. It is loud, but I even had a guy in a Corvette tell me it sounds nice. Made a huge difference in power too.

If you want something cheap, simple, and effective, just get a testpipe.

Later you can add a catback, and then a downpipe. But the biggest bank for the buck would be the testpipe.

Of course, this is for offroad use only ;)

i got a dual 3" DTM muffler and 3 inch piping all custom sounds like a beast, put it in 1st let off the gass and let it growl!!!!!

I have a 3in turbo-back ATR. No cat just piping until the muffler. If you let off the gas it gets loud but you get use to it after awhile. It is suppose to be one the best flowing exhaust out..... Not for sure on that though. For the right price I would sell it. :)
