i was wondering if anyone here uses CO2 to cool their intercooler on a regular basis. what im trying to figure out is what size tank would be reasonable and how long does a filled tank last? i know the two are relative, so say for instance a 5 lb tank, how long should that last? im used to running nitrous in a N/A car and know a 10 lb bottle lasts a while, but i also know the distribution rate with a CO2 setup is much different.

Last I read it was'nt that effective WI is better.

The CO2 Intercooler sprayers were chic a few years back but remember that the consensus was that they were not very effective at cooling and that better alternatives for the price (Water Injection, Larger FMICs) existed.

FYI.. water transfers much more heat than CO2 and is "free" to replenish :D
A properly setup a WI system can be as effective at cooling the intake charge as a much larger FMIC with the (+) external effect of "steam cleaning" your intake/combustion chamber.

I run a NX intercooler chiller on my hahn fmic. When I used it on the dyno, it actually caused the motor to run a little leaner, maybe because of the more dense intake charge. Anyway, with some fuel adjustments, we made an extra 27whp while spraying. I currently have the 5lb bottle, and it doesnt last too long. However I do tend to purge the bottle alot, especially when I have some ricer pull up on the side of my car with their window down...its quite funny to see the look on their face when they get a burst through their window. But back to the topic, the sprayer does unleash a big quantity of Nitrous while its engaged. I can empty the whole 5 lb bottle within a minute if I keep the switch on.
Yes, I'm one of the fools who actually put a purge valve on an IC sprayer, just for the fact to spray people (I have the purge valve angled up towards anyone's window that pulls along side of me from the passneger fender) ;)

There was a thread about a month and some change ago, it was about a GVR4 dyno pull. Somebody flamed another for suggesting IC sprayers. I found numerous links to prove him stupid. The dyno sheets I did see did not yeild a 27hp increase with a chilled FMIC. You're ingesting nitrous, thats why it went lean OMG For the tests they did on this car, they ran a snorkle into another room, used the CO2 and the nitrous, they both yeilded maybe 8-12 hp. But, when they used the CO2 without the snorkle, they lost hp. cause of the CO2 being ingested into the engine. Just a little fruit for thought. :|

Any chance your sucking in the spent nitrous and thats whats cuasing it? I read that on another board. Anyway nice add in and anything to make extra is a good thing. ;)

the only thing i can think of is that we routed my air filter to the bottom of the passgener fender...kinda like a cold air intake...i guess it could be possible that the nitrous coming off the sprayer on the IC is getting partially sucked in by the near by airfilter...watever it is...I'll take an extra 27whp wherever it comes from :thumb:

For about the same $ why not shoot the N2O into your intake and make 50-75HP guaranteed

I just don't get why you'd waste N2O in that fashion when CO2 is sooo much cheeper and more readily available.. well except for the cool purge effect and getting you competition high ;)

cryo2 makes the fmic kit, it also makes a purge kit, the benefit of co2 is that it is so damn cheap to refill.

the reason i got the NX kit was because in their catalog they said u can use it with C02 or nitrous......but then when I get the kit and try to get the bottle filled with C02, noone wants to do it ...........so yeh C02 would be much cheaper, but for how much I actually use it, I can spare the expense. The 5lb bottle costs 20 bucks to get filled
