Hey guys I wanted to get some suggestions on purchasing a turbo. Should I buy a brand new turbo or get a fairly new/never used larger turbo for the same price? I'm looking to get a big 16g, but i've seen some pretty good prices on used 20g's for about the same price. If any of you have purchased used turbos what was your experience? Thanks for your suggestions!

I wouldn't buy a turbo that more than 2 years old or more than 30000 miles old. I bought my 20G used but I knew the past owner and that turbo was always turbo timed and it had less than 10000 miles.

With both your going to need bigger injectors, fuel pump etc....

If you already have these then figure in that with a 20g you will also have to get a external wastegate or a dumped o2 to avoid the boost creep you would get with it.

If your car is pretty much stock and money is an issue then i wouldnt buy either one.

make sure you have:
Full 3" cat back
NO cat or atleast a 3"cat.
A good downpipe and ported o2
atleast 550 injectors
fuel pump
S-AFC

If i left anything out, then maybe someone else can add...
Either way, your going to be spending alot of money
Id just pump out all i could out of the stock turbo first, then upgrade later

I have the basic free-mods and some bolt-ons right now, but your right about the other modifications I will need to consider if getting like a 20g. What about getting a fairly used/brand new turbo though? I want to hear more experiences with that. Should I risk getting a used one and spending the left over money on other mods? I appreciate the suggestions! Thanks again!

i would wait if you are getting a new turbo, cause precision turbo and turbonetics are stopping production on there current turbos for more better turbos that are duel ball bearings which i heard say they last alot more effcient and alot longer lasting turbos in about 6 months...

aren't there current companies producing turbos with duel bearings? I could be wrong. but thanks for all the advice guys! I'd still like to hear more though :)
