ok i got my hands on a 6bolt complete block i want to build it,to be able to handle 20 to25lbs of boost . i was thinking of going with the stock rods and 2g pistons but notsure if that will work. any advice would be helpfull. :laser:

you dont build a motor to handle 20-25lbs of boost for starters. A stock motor will handle 20-25lbs of boost on a 50trim all day. Every turbo will make a different amount of power at 20-25lbs of boost. If you arent planning on exceeding 450whp which it doesnt seem like you would be, dont need to do anything more than a stock rebuild IF IT NEEDS IT.

I agree with everything you have said. But if you are rebuilding it you might as well upgrade to 2G pistons since you have it apart and they are cheap.

By the time you do 2g pistons and get your 1g rods resized and modified you almost could have bought eagles and wisecos.

So buy eagles and wisecos..

Get a gasket kit. Topline ?

OE head gasket

yea what he said ... unless you can get 2g pistons for like $20 ... machining is almost $100 for the rods to work with the pistons.

machining the rods should be more around 50$, but still really not worth it IMO unless u get the 2g pistons dirt cheap. Id stick to OEM unless u plan on making in excess of 400whp.

thanks guys i will stick with the 6bolt rods and 2g pistons. now i need some advice on the head should the stock head work good on that kind of set up or should i go with a bigger set of cams i would like it to idle well too. :laser:

How does $150 (max) compare to $800?
I wouldn't go putting wisecos in any street driven car that is not planning on making over 500 HP anyway. 2G pistons will be more street friendly.

Want to run the most boost for the least money?

Stick with the 1g pistons re-ring... Lower comp ratio will tolerate more boost than a 2g.. Assuming the bores are'nt tapered bad or crooked.. Still not a proper high power rebuild.

If you are buying new oversize pistons..

http://www.diamondstarmotorsport.com/engineparts.shtml

95 Pistons with Factory Ring Set $285 - Bore - Stock +.5MM (.020") +1MM (.040")

6Bolt rods will require machining for fit 2G pistons.

$50 rod work... Lowball = $200 (no resize or ARP install)

So $485 ~ $500

Eagle-Wiseco$763

$263 more + much stronger + ARP + = BALANCED Engine.....

Wisecos are very close piston to piston in weight (+light).... All a aftermarket rods worth buying are weight matched in sets and have ARP hardware.

That is alot for $263....

If you are buying new then yes it probably isn't going to be much of a cost difference between the two options. But there is nothing wrong with using a set of used 2G pistons that are in good shape. $200 for rod machining is steep, last time I had it done it was $75 for all 4 of them. But still...I would not use those forged pistons in a car that wasn't planning on making lots of power.

I would wiseco has offset wrist pins to reduce slap. Get a good machine shop to set the piston wall clearance. Then they are completely streetable...

I did't rebuild the engine in my moms van w/o using oversize pistons... Just a driver for a parapelegic... Fresh, straight, accurate bores do other things like make an engine last longer (even non performance), reduce oil burning and improve fuel economy.

So either do a comp/leak test and leave it alone and wail on it for a while or tear it down and do it right for some chump change as compaired to 1/2 ass..
