I eliminated the vacumn lines going to my EGR and EVAP and all that as per the Taboo website... Now I get a code 43 EGR that comes on after driving for a while. I can clear it with the datalogger but it will come back. How do I get rid of it for good?

For those that think it's the ECU, the car no longer has a CA ECU in it. I now have a 1991 Federal Eprom in it, but I still have that EGR solenoid that's specific to CA cars.

How can I make the code never appear again?

You may have a E931 based EPROM but is R129 installed? Without it that code will act like a CA car. Since a real fed ECU won't throw that code I suspect you changed the EPROM but didn't add the resistor.

Hi,

I checked this with alldataonline.com They mention that the code is for the california ecu only. So, I don't know why it is giving you a code with the federal. Is the plug still connected? If so, try to drive around with it not connected.
The code is given for 2 reason a malfunctioning EGR temperature sensor or the EGR control solenoid valve.
If you want, I can e-mail you the carts how to check those items.

Hmm... the computer has a keydiver chip for 550's and MAFT. So I don't know does that tell you anything? The car is CA, and it has the solenoid, but the computer is a 91 eprom.

I will try unplugging the solenoid and clearing it and see if it comes back on.

Sven - Please send me that info, I'd really appreciate it!

You confused me in the first post by saying you had a 1991 Federal Eprom. I thought you ment you had swapped EPROMS into a '90 ECU. If you have a MD166262 (6578E on the connector) with a Keydiver chip it would have had R129 installed originally and would be very unusual for it to throw a EGR error no matter what type of spec car.

How are you reading the error code? Are you using a datalogger, and if so which, or by hooking up something to the diag pin. I ask because some older dataloggers report incorrect codes.

Sorry about that... the ecu is a from a 91. It's a federal ecu (according to vfaq) and it is eprom'ed.

I'm using a Palm IIIxe with MMCD to read the code, ie datalogger. It has always worked good though... that's weird. I don't have a clue why it would throw that code. Next time I drive I will unplug the solenoid and see if it does anything.
