I just put a 14B in my 2G and I dont have a gasket for the oil return hose. I was wondering if it were OK to use like a liquid gasket or some high-temp silicon. Has anybody tried it before? I really dont feel like ordering a tiny little gasket and waiting another week for it to come in to drive it.... Thanks guys. :thumb:

When I installed my 16g a while ago I didn't have any new gaskets, I just used the silicone stuff....No leaks at all :thumb:

what silicone stuff..do you meant hi-temp RTV?

I tore mine when doing the 14b awhile back. Used teh purple loc tite stuff and it leaked. u can get some gasket paper and make a gasket for anything with that stuff, thats what I ened up doing.

OK, we got some of those 12"x12" MR Gasket sheets of gasket maker in stock. I just really didnt feel like making such a small gasket. I was hoping the liquid stuff would work. Was it a pain in the ass to cut out a gasket from that stuff?

HAHAHA no Geeze if thats a PITA to you I would hate to see your workmanship on the rest of the car what is 5 mins with a pair of scissors?

We must be talking about two different kinds of gaskets. The stuff I got is kinda thick and scissors wont make small cuts on it. The last time we used this stuff, scissors wouldnt work, so we used the jig saw, and it was pretty quick.

A few days ago, I just applied some RTV High Temp gasket to my oil return. I used Permatex brand. THe orange tube. Gotta wait a few hours before driving or you'll need to apply again. Works like a charm.

Yeah the Permatex RTV is what I got too. I'm just gonna give that a try tonight. I'll let it sit for a couple days before I try driving it, and I'll keep a close eye on it for leaks. If it doesnt work, I'll just make a gasket.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For 4-cylinder, turbocharged or high-performance engines. The most advanced, high temperature RTV silicone gasket available. Sensor-safe, low odor, non-corrosive. Superior adhesion. Three times more oil resistant than conventional silicones; eight times more flexible than cut gaskets. Temperature range -75°F to 700°F intermittent; resists auto and shop fluids and vibration.

Suggested Applications:
Exhaust manifolds/headers, valve covers, oil pans, timing covers, water pumps, thermostat housings

OK mine leaked with that stuf.

If you get normal gasket paper its about 3x thicker then say white sheet paper from your printer. Its thin enough to hold over the area u want to make a gasket for and rub with a pencil to transfer the pattern to the paper. It comes it rolls usually and is dirt cheap. I use it for everything on my engine instead of paying for gaskets average time is about 5 mins to make a gasket and if you have a punch set for the holes its even quicker.

OK, we were definately talking about different material. The stuff I got is like three sheets of tagboard. You'd have to beat it with a hammer to transfer the pattern... LOL. I'm head out to my showroom to see if I can find any of that thin stuff.

Royalty - Thanks for the copper RTV idea. I got a bunch of that stuff in stock and it's only $2.25, so I'll probably get some just in case. :thumb:

I just put a new turbo in a while ago and used that black silicon stuff on the oil return line. It held up for a coulple of days but then it started leaking.

BTW, A new gasket from the dealership is around $2.15. I would just save some mess with using the RTV and get a real gasket.

i think the only thing youd have to watch out for is blocking the oil return hole itself when you tighten the line down to the oil pan. dont use alot and you shouldnt have this problem.
