ok, i have a set of 1g rods and pistons and 2g rods and pistons at a shop for the usual combo of 1g rods with 2 g pistons, are they two piece or 1 piece, my guy at the machine shop put them on a press and they werent wanting to move so before breaking my stuff he was curious how it was supposed to be removed from either side, thanks

Josh

If the pins dont come out using a press then youll need to heat the piston/rod assembly in some sort of furnace or use a rod heater and then press the pins out. Be carefull not to go over 4000 lbs when trying to remove/install them. That much force can ruin the piston/rod.

They will press out from either side but make sure the arbour (the part you have the piston resting on to press it) is a good shape to where it is resting on the piston or they will crack the piston, You will have to have the small end of the 1G rod machine to accept the 2G piston the wrist pins are 1mm difference in size!. when pressing they do take a bit to crack the seal then they press easily.

thanks guys i relayed the info back to the guy doing the work, i knew about the mods to the rods, he was just being carefull with my stuff,,,i like that, hopefully soon my other block will be built as well, thanks

I'd go get the parts and take them to a place who had a clue about what they were doing.

Hint... "rod oven"

id trust this guy before the other idiots in town that cant tell you what step on the flywheel is, hes carefull, andhe does have a good heat source, if you saw the shop youd be impressed before making comments about somebody you dont know

Your original post says nothing about a heat source.

If he would have used one, they would have come out quite easily.

The other shops may not know the flywheel step, but maybe they *do* know how to do this job properly.

Some of the biggest idiots in the industry work in well equipped shops.
