My 99' 7-bolt is being built up with the works by a reputable shop. I'm concerned about the oil system after the rebuild. Most shops seem to do the balance shaft removal, which increases oil pressure. In addition I've seen several recommendations (Magnus for one) to block off the piston oil squirters, thus raising oil pressure even more.

1.) Could this cause TOO high of oil pressure, which will lead to valve float (lifter lock) and possible tripping of the oil-filter by-pass valve ?

2.) Does anyone know how much each mod increases oil pressure by ?

3.) If the motor is 99% street and 1% track time, then shouldn't I keep the balance shafts, and possibly even the squirters ?

4.) If the balance shafts alone increase oil pressure, and I keep the piston squirters, isn't it possible that the increase in oil pressure will cause the oil squirters to be open at idle, when they should be closed ?

you need the oil squirters for the wrist pins. there is a reason the turbo dsms got them.

Yeah I thought they did. Long story short, I'm putting a built 6-bolt in my 99'. Kind of ironic really, since it is split thrust, and I tried like hell to locate the car. The shop wouldn't build it unless it had no balance shafts and no oil squirters. That is what made me go 6-bolt. Apparently the cam/crank sensor nonsense isn't that bad. Guess I'm going to find out.

i remember reading a manual, i think it was mitchel on demand, and it sayed not to reuse the oil squirters on the 2g. that may be where the confusion came from. just a thought

I decided to build my 7 bolt and it also has split thrust bearings. I did not plug the oil jets/squirters. However, I did remove the balance shafts. I've found it varies from shop to shop and everyone has thier own oppinions on how to build a motor. For the most part they norally don't plug the squirters on a 6 bolt and prefer to plug them on a 7 bolt.
