palm springs,
i have a 1990 mighty max with the 4g64 sohc W/O jet valves and i want to turbo it. i've heard the 4g63t exhaust will bolt right on to a 4g64 head is this true or do i need to make a custon turbo manifold ??

Why don't you get the exhaust manifold gaskets from both and check yourself? You should be able to just hold them up next to each other at the dealer and see for yourself.

there is a mighty max near where i live that's loud as #ell and slower than $hit! It is primer grey with green flames on the side. the definition of ricer.

here's a pic of mine .. it's loud (slow compared to your cars but for a truck it's not.. it whoops equaly modded s-10's) i try not to make it look like all the other trucks and i want it to be a sleeper. it's all about the :dsm:

i just recently did the 4g63 turbo engine swap into my 90 mighty max, what would you like to know?
it is a lot of work, but it is gonna haul ass when i finally get it running correctly.
the only tough part is wiring it........let me know what u need to know....

i still have my old 4g64 engine sitting behind my friends garage, if i go over there this weekend, i will check and see if the 4g63 exhaust manifold will bolt onto the 4g64. the reason i didnt just do that was because i wanted the dohc's, and the 4g63 came with better pistons and everything, it just seemed like a better all around engine for performance. I would doubt that the 4g64 pistons could hold up to high boost pressures like the 4g63......anybody have thoughts on this?
if u have any questions about the whole 4g63 swap, i would be happy to answer you, i wish i had somebody around that did this before me, it could have saved me lots of money and time, im sure!!!!

i can get forged alum pistons for 600 for the 4g64.. i've heard of people putting the 4g63 dohc head on a 4g64 block it seems like a pain. how close was the 4g63 to fitting the stock motor mounts?? i've heard the rods are the same in both engines is this true??

From my research, i believe that the rods and pistons in a 4g64 are the same length and bore as the 4g63. The turbo 4g63 pistons have some kind of protective coating on them though, to handle the higher combustion chamber temperatures. The 4g64 wouldnt have that coating , so to make the 4g64 handle huge boost, a piston upgrade would be a nice idea. the differnence in the engines is the stroke, which means that the crank is taller in the 4g64, as opposed to the 4g63. Now as everybody knows, the 4g63 is a zero tolerance engine, and therefore if the timing belt goes it bends all the valves. so to have a bigger stroke (4g64), you need to have a taller block or the pistons will hit the head. so the 4g64 block is a little taller block, but all the bolt patterns are the same as far as i know (oil galleys are a little different). I know that the engine mounts are exactly the same, and most of the brackets would even bolt on if u used parts from the 4g64 on the 4g63.
so yes, it will mount in there with stock engine mounts. im still not to sure about the 4g63 ehxaust manifold on the 4g64 though, i will check for ya, most likely this weekend.
let me know if u have any more questions

JERMEY i it is verry cool that you put that motor in your truck.. :thumb:

i have been thinking about that for about 3 years now.. but did not have the money to keep in the game.. when i would ask questions on the dsm forms i would get laughed at for the idea of hoppin up a truck.. and kicked off the irc servers. i baught a 4g64 dohc block harness and ecu about 2 years ago.. but the bolt pattren was diffrend on my transmission and my testing stage kinda went out at that point.. i have been doing as much reasearch on the 2 motors for the past 2 years but work has keept me from starting on the project again.. and now i here some one made minitruckin with the same swap.. hats off to that person.. but i cant find any info on the net about it.. and i missed the issue do to me being offshore at the time..

i have came down to the point that i know i need a 110mm bolt patteren block to bolt stright into my truck tranny..

on the other hand i think i am going to use my truck block with a 4g63t head.. change the pistions in my block to the custom wisco pistons so that they will not melt when i boost..

i seen how you cut your firewall out to make room for the coolent piping i was thinking of getting a coolent jacket cnc machined to come around the side the block (we have a local cnc shop in my town) and connect in the approxment aira of the truck motor.

as far as wireing i have a shop books on the eclipse and the mighty max and have been drawing wiring digrams while i was at work praying that it will work when i wire it up..

how long did it take you to do your wiring?

as far as the manifolds go how did you use the factory manifold.. on the intake i was thinking of cutting the TB mount off and welding it to the other side.. the guys at the cnc shop suggested making a compleat custom intake.. there price was between 500 and 700 depending on machine time.. i did not think that was a bad price.. but on the other hand i wold like to retain the factory intake like you did..

exaust ????? can you please post pics on how you did your exaust.. i noticed when i baught the 4g64 doch motor that the exaust on that block is mounted where my motor mount is mounted.. and i wold have to get a custom exaust made..

also how are you cooling the motor with electronic fans or belt drive
i was thinking of putting 2 electronic fans (one push one pull) on the turck and using the electrical system of the donar car to run the fans just like they were in the car.. :dsm: :thumb:

i also honor you guys on this form for not flamin this thred most dsm owners i have ran across will not even think once about helpin a minitrucker.. i dont see y i have owned every thing from a 87 mighty max with 12 orion 15" in the snugg to a honda accord with 6 jl 10's in the trunk.. i am willing to help any one.. :thumb: we are all just having fun right
