Belt Shredded..

i was driving to get my senior pictures taken and my dash lights all came on and my power steering went out, so i pulled over. opened the hood looked near the alternator...
theres no belt on it.. my was was overheating too.. so i search for a bit longer and i find the shredded belt. what belt is this tat im talking about... the serpintine belt? how expensive/ easy to install are they.. im guessing this is also why my car over heated

IT almost sounds like your Harmonic dampener went out. Mine did that and ate my A/C belt first then it ate my alternator belt so check your harmonic dampener. Your lights come on because its stops pumping water and stops charging the battery and that the reason you are overheating. So check the dampener and see if it moves at all in or out. And yes there easy to install

Well it sounds like you've never changed the belt before. It may have just been old and brittle and finally gave out. The reason the car overheated is because the belt goes from teh crank and around the water pump and alternator.

The water pump has 2 pulleys on it, a belt then runs from the other pully to the p.s. So basically if you lose that alternator belt you lose everything. Good news is they only cost $5 from mitsu.

Its also pretty easy to put on, you can even do it with the car on teh ground, just kind of a pita that way.
