If your turbo is blown..will you blow smoke?

Exactly my question..if your turbo goes, will be be puffy smoke out the exhaust?

Not necessarily.

My 14b died a few months ago, and there wasn't a hint of smoke to be seen. I'm not sure exactly what had happened, but there was a lot of back and forth, in and out play in the turbine. It happened all of a sudden on the highway, a loud grinding noise, and no power.

YES !!!!!!!!!! Your exhaust will smoke when your turbo Blows. My turbo blew not too long ago and it would smoke real bad (from the exhaust) while i was driving. Plus i had a few club members blow theirs and they smoked too.

Mine never released a hint of smoke, and it was definitely dead.

Let me show you a picture of the turbo once I got it out:

It was making a horrible grinding noise, and was most definitely deceased, and there was not a puff of smoke to be seen.

So, not in all cases, no, but I might be the exception.

I guess it would all depend on the reason our turbo's blew. Mine blew cause my oil line got disconnected. Mine didn't spool up at all just blew smoke out

1g turbos (14b) tend to last longer and not smoke when dead. 2g turbos (T25) tend to need rebuilt/replaced every 50-70k and blow a shytload of smoke when blown. My T25 went at 55k and left a trail of thick smoke a quarter mile long. Literally. Weird thing is that one minute it was fine and running strong, next minute it left a huge smoke trail and ran like ass. All of the sudden.
