Did a little searching and seems like everyone is using TIG or MIG welding machines for their pipes, but can't the same be done using stainless steel welding rods? the one that has looks like jumper cables on one end where you clamp the welding rod on to?

Well it takes a lot of practice to get a clean wled but I'm pretty experienced, then just grind off whatever excess that forms and buff it?

Well cuz my dad already have a rod welding machine in his shop (too damn lazy too go and got no time :p besides too damn far). I wanna do it myself as not to bother the people in his shop, kinda borrowing the machine for the weekend.

anybody done this?

Go for it. My understanding of stick welders is that they will blow through rust like nothing else and they're mostly used for heavy duty welding such as construction. They might just burn holes in a piping. Play around with settings on the welder and see what happens.

Go for it! But make sure you practice on scrap material before you start on the actual pipes. It takes a little bit of experimenting to set up the arc welder just right, but once you get it you should be fine. I have welded material as thin as sheet metal with an arc welder, so that shouldn't be a problem. Be careful not to turn it down too low, or else it will keep sticking. Just practice first, and post pictures when your finished :thumb:
