Hey guys. This question may have already been asked, if so I am sorry, but really need this answered.

I have a 1997 Eclipse Spyder GS and the engine is just about shot.
I would really like to just swap out the 2.4 liter 4G64 and swap in a 2.0 liter 46g3 turbo engine.

Is this possible? Easy swap? What modifications to i need to do if any? Can I use the existing tranny?
Please, ANY and ALL information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

i am sure most everyone here will tell you the swap is going to be hard and not worth it. you have a diff. tranny that needs to be used, intake, exhaust, ecu, a lot of stuff and i dont think it will bolt right in either. This is a possable swap but will take a lot of time and a lot more $$$ than selling your car and getting a gst spyder.

See, I've heard just the opposite. I heard from a couple ppl that this swap is much much easier than a 4g63 to a 4g63T swap.

My problem is there is no way i can sell my car, with my mileage and condition of the engine since i still have a loan on it.

If the 4g63t is not an easy swap (although I would still like other ppls opinions), is their another engine that I could swap in "easier"?

Please let me know
thanks
chris

Neither would be particularly “easy” to swap. Like droptopgst said there are a lot of things you will need motor, tranny, ecu etc. The 4g64 is the same basic motor as the 4g63 so one wouldn’t be any easier than the other. However the 64 would be the more desirable of the two. You will still end up spending 4k or so to swap everything over which is not exactly wallet friendly.

$4k bah! maybe if you get it done through the dealership with everything brand new. otherwise i see $3k TOPS. local shop around here can get jdm motors and trannys, entire setup for about $2k....then labor is about $100 an hour. so you do the math, usually a swap takes about 5 hours, a bit longer if it's a custom jobber.
