I have a 1G and am looking for a intercooler. I was looking at the SBR intercooler but was wondering how well it will cool with the core being so tall. With lots of the core behing the bumper support and under the bumper cover, does this effect the cooling that the intercooler is trying to do? Or will a smaller core with more surface area being exposed to ambient air cool better? thanks!

Oh man this subject has been hit in the head so many times. Do a search. Existing upgrades and future plans will determin what size to get. AAMOF there is a heated dispute going on in a diferent post about IC's.

I tried a search and did not find the answer that i was looking for. I dont want to cut out my front bumper to expose the top of the intercooler to ambient air. I was just wondering if that makes that much of a difference. And I dont feel like reading through 10 pages of people arguing trying to find the one person that actually knows the answer. :)

Intercooler size and amonut of trimming required depends on engine/turbo airflow amounts and your plans and intentions with the car. A longer core with a short height might cool a 14b or 16g at 10 psi, might heat sink at 18 psi.

Well, considering we have no clue what your setup is or will be. There is no way to answer this question. On would assume considering *most* dsms don't have hacked bumpers and have no problem achieving any level of performance you can possibly hope for.

You will probably not need any bumper modification. To achieve your goals using a slow boys intercooler or any other I/C for that matter. Doing more research was and still is the correct answer to your question.

right now i have a big 16g. so i'd be better off having a bigger core regardless of how much of the i/c is exposed?

Well check out JR's FMIC no cutting fits perfect and many are satisfied. You can find them on E-Bay. Again depending on mods and future plans depends on what FMIC to get!? ;)
