Searching around on ebay I found this
Ebay custom intercoolers
You must be logged in to view this image or video.

This guy custom makes what seem to be fairly decent intercoolers. And juding from his 100% feedback over 191 transactions his customers are very happy too.

I'm going to keep my 14b and port the hell out of it. Now i want to get a FMIC.

To avoid the most headaches what size should I have him make my FMIC for my 1991 talon.

Ive seen some guys with 22x7x3 is that a bit much?

I dunno

That size will be fine.

In general, a bigger FMIC is better. However, for the smaller amount of airflow you see with a 14b, something that size will give you a noticable difference over the SMIC while still allowing some airflow to the radiator.

True.

And the fact that you have a Flippy-Talon (1G a), that size will fill the bumper opening quite nicely.

Although ArcticTsi has a 1G a, his monster Trust GTR intercooler fills his bumper opening quite nice as well! ;)

But back to the Ebay-cooler thing...

How much is the endtank fabrication running you, or the whole intercooler itself?

Or are you getting it fabbed from the guy, and he's just using that picture as a referance to the core size?

A FMIC is next on my list as well. :thumb:

:dsm:

well the ebay price includes everything :thumb:

i just need to tell him what size to make. I cant wait!

Wow... that's impressive looking. I might have to check this guy out!

That intercooler looks top notch. I don't know if you tried it but this guy actually has various ebay autions going and has an intercooler specially made for the 1G dsm (219) and one for the 2G dsm in another auction (295) Damn I wish I had the cash right now

I have bought and installed this intercooler. JR the guy that makes these intercoolers has made a good impression on me, I literally had my intercooler a day after the purchase on ebay. Granted, I live in the same state (La Center, WA), but when it arrived it was in perfect shape, and the welds were flawless. Below is a link to my auction for full specs on my intercooler.

My Ebay Auction

Some things to think about when you order the intercooler IMO.

That intercooler was made for a 1G DSM, it was the easiest install of a FMIC ever, you take off the bumper, take a few measurements, and bolt it to the bottom of the bumper support.

No cutting A/C out, power steering cooler was moved, and I had to punch a hole by the washer fluid bottle for the charge pipe for complete install.

Consider getting endtanks facing the radiator, so you can run short piping route. That was the only thing I wish I had gotten.

JR answered my e-mails promptly, and was very knowledgeable.

All in all, a great intercooler for a bargin IMO.

Anyone know what kind of piping you would need to go to the smic location and to the turbo outlet? I'm looking for a good fmic for up to ~400 crank hp, would this cut it? It'd be nice to not have to move crap around and cut holes etc, plus I'd like to have good flow to my rad still..

just because an intercooler looks shiney doesnt mean its good. i see no flow # or anything like that on the auction, so why would you want it. it probably flows like shit.

well considering 3 members say they have it and say noting but praise what else can you think.

And being you dont have one to say what it flows like your comment now sounds like shit.

thanks for coming out.

Flat out bigger is not always better. That is why we use flow charts ect to pick out a cooler that is efficient for what we are using it for. Go with one too small, and it will not cool enough, go with one to large, and you just introduced more turbo lag. Most companies have charts to show what a cooler does where including pressure drop.

There was a guy on ebay, and I do not think this one is him. But he always uses Spearco cores. And they have a real low drop. He just orderes the cores and makes his own end tanks. Causehe does it himself, he can sell the entore thing for a pretty cheap cost.

more info on the piping required would be nice still. I'm considering a fmic w/ the gm maf blow through combo. Anyone know where u could get the piping made to go w/ this core?

Intercooler pipes are easy to fabricate. It depends on your intercooler setup/metering system setup. I am running a 2G MAS, and I used three mandrel bent 90's, a 3" Radius 180, and a 45. This was everything I needed to make a complete kit. As soon as I get my 60 trim hooked up I'll snap some pics. Still breaking in my motor with my beater 14B so it's ghetto rigged right now.

you got a point there.

For the do it your selfers of the group. What would you say was your cost on the piping, coupling etc? I am wondering if there is a savings doing it this way vs ordering a full intercooler kit.
Jr (from the ebay sale) has a ful kit for $650.

Thanks for any replies.

Hi JJ,

Thanks for the post. This does look like a nice kit. Were there any difficulties you encountered or other modifications that had to be made during install?

Musta been editing the message. The installed pic link is in my first post, above.

No difficulties really. Just enlarging the rad support pass through hoses, bending the power steering and AC lines out of the way. Pretty straight forward.

Right about the editing. After posting I was like duh. Really have to check the eyesight.

Thanks again.

I spent about $75 in mandrel bends form jegs.com and $30 for a 15" length of silicone 2.5" coupler. Also about $30 for constant torque clamps from napa. I have my own welder so, $300 for ic and $135 for additional parts.

noone has flow tested it. youre buying it for bling. if it flowed awesome, it would be all over the auction.

Why is it that everyone that is putting down these ic's either have no car profile or no other proof that theirs is better. What do you have 95talontuner and what kind of time have you run? I have one and track time to verify it is good.
