ever since i put my front mount ic in, the hks ssq bov doesn't sound the
same, instead of just making the pssst sound, now it makes a sound like
fttt fttt then pssst. i don't know if it needs ajusted, which i have already tried at the bottom of it with the bolt that you screw in. i don't know what it is, any suggestions? thanks

how much boost are you running when this happens? do you have any boost leaks? (have you pressure tested the system)

If your only running 5 or 6 psi, don't worry about that... your getting a little compressor surge....... you only need to be concerned about surge if your running 10+psi

Have you tried 15psi since the fmic went on?

ooooooooooooooo wait, you have a GS.... 420a motor.

You probably need a softer BOV... I have a greddy type S that would work nicely on your setup, it's not as stiff as the HKS -- PM me if your intersted.

are you sure that is what i need because without the fmic the bov was sounding just fine, do you think there may be a problem with it or is what you are saying true? if so, my piping is flanged for the hks, would i need a different flange for the greddy?

You would need a greddy flange... I can supply one with the BOV... then you would just need to have a shop weld it on. Most exhaust shops would do it for $40 or less. The greddy I have has held 30PSI Pressure tests w/o any leaks -- I've had it a year, and less then 10k miles.

HKS BOV's will surge at low boost, every HKS BOV I've seen had this problem..... hoenstly I'm surprised you havn't had this problem untill now.

sll you need to do is adjust the bolt on the back of the ssqv to let it release sooner. that's it. trust me, i've seen this problem on most cars when they first install them, and after a little tweaking on the bov they work perfect.

you can only adjust the HKS so far, it's a pretty damned stiff bov..... wherease the greddy can release lower loads of pressure without problems.

yes that is true, but if adjusted properly it should have no trouble venting off anything more than 3 psi at the least.

my friend's local cavalier tuning shop uses it on all of their turbo kits with no problems what so ever and they usually run around 7-8 psi max on their smaller kits.

Solar, I PMed you about the greddy type S if your intersted.....

As far as the HKS goes, I spent about 2 weeks helping a friend try to tune his to 7psi, eventually we gave up, and turned his boost up (he kept it turned down for when his wife drove the car... LOL) past the "threshold" to where it would vent properly and not stutter.
