Hello, well I've got yet another question. I have a source for a 4G64 out of a '96 Galant. My stocker just developed crankwalk, so I'm really wanting the 4G64 hybrid from Magnus but unfortunately don't have the $$ for that. However, would this be a cheaper alternative? I know the bottom end of the 4G64 is s'posed to bolt right up to the head/intake of the 6 bolt 4G63, so basically my question is this. Is swapping in a 4G64 essentially the same as swapping in a 6 bolt in my 2G? Thanks for any and all help. Oh, and rdrkt, you said you were getting the magnus buildup... any updates? sounds like a very... very.... very nice setup.
Thanks for your time,
Bryan

Well it doesn't just bolt right up. There is alot too it and it will take some $$ either way

Hello,
I've got a few questions for whenever you get a few minutes. First, do I have crankwalk? I've got a fairly beat up 95 GSX, and have nearly 100K on it. I was under the impression that crankwalk usually occured much earlier in an engine's life, and that if it didn't, it wouldn't ever. The clutch has always had problems ever since I got the car. I was told it had a new clutch slave cylinder, and that it would lack pressure for a while until it got broken in. It has never really engaged quite fully... it loses pressure, and the friction point is really low and close to the floor. I can push the clutch pedal down about 3 inches before I actually start to engage... is this normal? When I do have pressure, I do notice a significant decrease in pedal pressure when I take left turns, which I know is a symptom of crankwalk, but might this be due in part to the general lack of pressure I always feel? I've also begun to notice the "pinging" effect when you're at idle and push in the clutch. These two combined have me pretty convinced that I have crankwalk.
Now, assuming that I do have crankwalk, what should I do now? I was thinking about doing a Buschur stage 3 6 bolt, but is that really the way to go? Is there a more cost effective shop out there that will assemble a 6 bolt for me? Or is 6 bolt even the way to go? Of course, for you to be able to give me any advice you're probably wondering about what my goals are... and... well... mainly I want a car that I can have some responsible fun in (I still want to be able to embarass the ricers) and get decent gas mileage (at least 20 mpg highway), and get me through the next 8 years of college (I'm pre-med). I wanted the stage 3 because I figured an engine built to handle 600 hp should be able to take 450 to 500 no problem and never have any issues with crankwalk (thats my goal... 400 hp). Will I need a standalone for a 6 bolt in a '95? What will I need to accomodate a 6 bolt in a 2G car? Basically I'm wondering what you would do in my situation, with my goals. I know what I'll need as far as aftermarket goes... AGP L2R, Fullt 3" exhaust, built rearend, DSMLink/S-AFC, ect. ect. but what I'm needing now more than the good stuff is a good foundation, and thats where I'm stuck. Where should I take my car to have the work done, and what should I have done to it. Like I said, whenever you get time... if that happens to be never, than it really isn't a big deal. I was just hoping to get some good answers from someone who really seems to know their sh*t. Lately I've also been contemplating the 4G64/4G63 hybrid from magnus. Unfortunately, I don't have 6K to make one work. I have a connection to a 4G64 from a '96 galant. Is this the same bottom end that magnus is using? Are these just as susceptible to crankwalk? What exactly is Magnus doing with his blocks as far as bearings/rods/pistons, etc.? I really like the idea of more torque... I've always wanted more torque, even more than horsepower. I'm not sure, I'm just plagued with ideas but I don't have any real world experience with any of this and I was hoping you could help me out.
Sorry to just dump all this on you like this. I just don't want to be calling the shops yet because I don't quite have the $$ saved up to have this done yet... don't want to be misleading, and I know they won't want to waste their time on someone who doesnt have the $$ yet. Quite frankly, I'd completely understand if you don't either. Once more to reiterate, reply whenever you get the ambition to. I realize that this is a pretty demanding message... and that I probably haven't gained enough knowledge on DSM's to earn the right to ask such questions, but I would seriously appreciate it if you could help me out.
Thanks for everything,
Bryan
