Just like the title says. Awhile ago my car significantly overheated. I ended up decking the head, changing valve seals, water pump, timing belt and such. Being the inexperienced 7bolt engine builder, I broke the Cam Position Sensor. I replaced it, and the car still ran poorly. After many different possibilities, I ended up adding a 1g CAS using RRE's technique. Car idles and runs, but rather poorly.

When I get in it the engine feels like it is misfiring at the higher psi levels. I’ve used multiple sets of plugs, because after a few miles of running them, they are completely black. The car smokes like a mother. Timing is dead on @5deg BTDC, and all the bad gas has been ran out of the car (intentionally). Compression check showed me with 190 low and 194 high, so it can’t be my rings, or valves.

The car seems to only have the timing issues under higher boost levels, but everything is sealed up tightly. The car smokes real badly, but the turbo has exactly no play in, out, up, or down. With a gallon of 93 and a pint of +7 NOS I was still not able to prevent it from smoking.

Has anyone successfully done the 1g CAS in a 2g, and if so, did it work for you? I just need a few new ideas, cause believe me. I am all out.

Have you checked for boost leaks? Black plugs are a good sign of running rich.

Which method did you use on RREs site? The one that involved switching the injector wires on the ECU harness, or the other one? Also, did you do the barometric pressure sensor mod?

The first time I made the static inverter. That didn't wirk so well. This time I swapper around the injector wires in the ecu and the input for the coil pack. I thought that might have been the problem, but when I switched them back to normal she ran like a$$, so i out it back rre's way. I do hav the 10k pot on the baromic pressure sensor, but when i adjust it slightly it leans the car out bad, and it still doesn't stop the smoking.

If anyone has done this 1g cas I would like some insight. anyone?

sorry about the different name.. I only just now realized that my girlfrind is still logged in.

I did the 1g CAS swap without problems. I am assuming you have an AFC correct? Adjusting the barometric sensor will make the ecu see less air coming into the engine, so you will need to richen it up. As far as the smoking, that could be a lot of other things, and I could not help you there.

I did my install as per Magnus instructions. I'v had really god luck so far, and the car has been running better than ever.

I was able to add a bit of base timing, and it made a noticible difference down low. The turbo spools about 300 rpm's sooner, and torque has definitely picked up.

The only quirk that I've encountered is the random misfire CEL.. At first when I installed the CAS, every so often i would get symptoms that were a bit like I read on one of the boards..
The car would intermittently start to stumble really bad and would misfire as the motor went into boost. Push the clutch in and let the revs drop, and the problem would go away for a minute, then re-appear. The only short term fix was to re-set the ECU.

Long term fix is to just keep dicking with the base timing until I find a happy median. So far she seems to like about 7~7.5 degess advance.

I would say to re-check your wiring and compare the RRE schematics with those that Magnus has.

um, long term fix is to go to radio shack, buy a $3 potentiometer, and spend 5 minutes soldering, and then retune.
