1g blocks turbo vs non-turbo

turbo blocks have a knock sensor bung, non-turbos don't (although there is a way to use the stock knock sensor but don't ask me how).

The bung is there, it just has to be tapped. The only other difference in the block itself is the lack of oil squirters. If you talk about complete rotating assemblies, the pistons are different too.

Thank you for trying to clear up misinformation by reviving a ten year old thread that very few new members would have ever searched for and actually found.

Now, since you've resurrected it and the likelihood that newer members may stumble across it has subsequently increased, let's set the record straight(er): some non-turbo blocks have the knock sensor bung tapped and ready to accept the sensor from the factory.

Knowing this, if the block doesn't have it tapped and ready to go, one can be reasonably sure that the block is a non-turbo as ALL turbo blocks should have it. Since some non-turbo blocks have it, one must look for other signs to confirm a turbo block; at the end of the day, the VIN or oil squirters check are the easy ways to go.

do non turbo blocks have oil squirters? I think I looked this up when I was a noob, but before we close thread is there any benefit or non-benefit to this?

The non-turbo blocks do NOT have oil squirters. A lot of guys remove them simply because they are just another thing to clog or fall off and damage the rotating assembly. They really don't help cool the pistons that much. You would be better off coating the pistons and removing the squirters.
