Can you pull the center diff with trans still in the car?

I'm basically looking for a how-to on this. *Calling Transdude!*8 :coy:

It sounds like its possible, but i don't really want to tackle this blindly.

I'd like to get it out and sent to be welded monday first thing.

Thanks
Aaron

Yes you can its only like 5 or 6 bolts holding it on you might have to work around the exhaust though the down pipe might have to come off it would be way easier to get at with out the down pipe out its really simple.

Wrong part brosef.

WOW I feel really dumb now LOL It didnt even click I am so excited I just got my dsm running after like it sitting for like 3 years Ive had it for almost a year I am so excited that I didnt read it all the way

Remove the end cover off the tranny, pull the vc and 5th gear assembly, and remove the cover behind them and you can take the center diff out. That's the very short and simple version.

Start by taking the end case off which is just a bunch of bolts. Then remove 5th gear and the viscous coupler. Remove the next section of the transmission, and you'll see the gear clusters and the center diff. You can leave the transfer case and downpipe on too. Its not fun, but neither is the process of removing the whole transmission.

edit, wow, several people posted while I was typing that up, haha.

There's more room than you think once you start pulling it apart and the car is jacked up.

Thanks guys, hopefully I try this tomorrow.

Um, you guys are all talking about 5 spds, I have an automatic transmission.

I'm to the point where I need a puller for the center diff. unless there is another retaining bolt of some kind holding it in.

I got it done, I stopped being a ####y and got it out by hand not too bad actually.

Right now i need to pull the VC and then I'll be done for a bit.
