car wont go to redline unless he manual shifts

ok my buddy just got a 1g NT which btw is auto, yeah the car sucks, but thats besides the point . Anyways, the car wont go to redline unless he manualls shifts. It always wants to shift at like 5000-5200, even with the "power" button on . Any ideas what to check? thanks in advance guys

stock transmission...why wouldn't it shift at 5k.. I don't understand why you want to shift at 7k in an auto nt anyways.. Going to start slipping real quick

Yea for sure, if you drive around in a '98 Buick like my grandma. It’s a sports car, why wouldn’t he??

If the said car is a 4g nt car, I’m pretty sure the limit is 7 grand. I’m not saying the engine limit, just the stock transmission that’s designed to go to 7k along with the engine.

I would check into the tps. If its not reading 100% I think the transmission won’t shift at full line pressure, or at redline. Maybe, maybe not.

Automatics are always the best to work on BTW. Have fun!
