Okay I did a search on it and had no good results. When you do the tranny flush how many quarts do you put back in? Advance Auto shows that the tranny takes 7.5quarts but I dont know if that is including what the torque converter keeps inside.

IMO tranny flushes are one of the few maintenance services that are worth paying to have done. Go to a tranny shop and let them hook it up to their machine so it takes out all of the old and puts the correct amount of new fluid back in. Again, I suggest a tranny shop like Ammco or similar over a Tires Plus or Quick Lube.

You are correct, the tq converter will retain a bit of fluid as well as the tranny cooler and lines.

You're asking for BIG TROUBLE going to Aamco because their business is REBUILDING transmissions and somehow or another they will see to it that is what you'll ultimately be paying for.

Unfortunately I've been down that road with Aamco and wound up paying over $2000 for a FWD trans rebuild that 1) took way too long to complete 2) wasn't done properly 3) gave me a warentee they refused to honor 4) had a 'GO F yourself' attitude policy.

You can change the filter + refill and repeat a couple of times for a flush effect.

I guess I have had great luck with the Ammco here in my hometown and have had terrible luck with Tires Plus or the quick lube. Just like any chain store there will be the bad ones. I would rather have my fluid changed by a tranny rebuilder than an oil changer.

Your method of filling and dumping will work too.

The mitsudealers guarentee 95-99% of all the old tranny fluid to be flushed out if you use them. Most shops only take out about 70% or so. See if theres any mitsu dealers around you.

I've been to 5 Aamcos and they all sucked.

Went to Jiffy lube too and as a result NOBODY chabges the filter + fluid anymore except me. Now it gets done right every time.

If I ever need serious trans work again I'll take it to a dsm shop. You can throw as much money as you have at mitsu dealers and places like aamco and still come away with a F'ed up car. I say that from my bitter personal experiences.

when i installed my shift kit, we flushed the transmission and it took about 8-8 1/2 quarts i wanna say..

5 quarts if draining the pan and disconnecting the atf return line while in D , close to the firewall . Do it often and only put the best stuff in yourself. :thumb:

I couldn't agree less. A tranny shop like Aamco makes their money off of rebuilds so don't be surprised if when you're there they conveniently 'FIND' something wrong with your trans. Of course a non-tranny place can't stick you with a rebuild but do you really want some minimum-wage-mechanic-wannabe messing around with your trans?

UNLESS you can find someone who's COMPETENT and has absolutely no interest in getting you for expensive tanny work I'd say do your own flush by filling trans, driving car, draining fluid, and repeating like 2 or 3 times. Of course change your filter too.
