ok the more i thought about this, the stranger it seems.now i know dsm a/t's arnt the most reliable, but i replaced mine last april to the tune of $1800.i never dogged the car, never did anything stupid like revving to 8k then slamming it in drive.i admit to driving it briskly but no punk kid kind of driving.im nearly 26,im too old for that crap.i check my fluid levels daily so it was quite a surprise when last friday on the way to work my tranny went from driving fine to feeling like it was in neutral the whole time or if i turned the car off and on it would drive okish until it shifted to 2nd then it was like it was in neutral.then it stopped working entirely,no reverse,no low, nothing.i dont think park even did anything as the rpms never changed like they usally do when switching from drive to park and vice versa.nothing.my father(in law)came and chain towed it the transmission shop who put the thing in back in april since luckily im still under warranty.so hopefully ill have my car back soon.there is no way in heck this is normal,is it?in its throes the tranny was making a sound like a rope being run across something very quickly, sort of a "zworp"sound every so often.and my fluid was full as well.was this just bad luck or what?surely less than a year and around 10k is absurdly short for a "rebuilt"tranny(we have our doubts, the shop said they usually do on site repairs and not rebuilds and it would be at the most 600 dollars, then its "oh we put in a rebuilt tranny,1800 please").when my tax return comes i want to buy one of the jdm engines to replace my near 200k engine.i dont want to buy a new engine just to have my next tranny turn it into a $750 lawn ornament.any thoughts fellow space travellers?

200k mile engine, not 200k dollars.i dont think i have an atomic reactor conversion under the hood.

Zworp sounds are usually not a good sign. :D

You can use the procedure outlined on the plymouthlaser.com site to find out if your TCU is throwing any tranny codes. And no, what you described is not normal. You could take it to ATF (Automatic Transmission Factory) in Davie-- they've worked on several of these trannies before, but they're not cheap.

i need to get that laser sites adress tattooed on my hand so i dont forget it again.that adress should come printed on the title of every a/t dsm. i went ahead and printed the article on getting codes from the tcu.ill give it a go the moment i get the car back from the shop in hopes of combating a repeat performance of the amazing zworp and his sidekick's anger and embarassment(seriously, doesnt anyone know that emergency flashers mean it isnt a good idea to pull behind this car at an intersection.if those flashing lights arent clues, perhaps the guy pushing the car is a more readable sign)

hopefully i never have to go to atf,but if this happens to me again ill defintly take it to them....if im not killed by my father in law for having to tow the car again.thanks alot, always a good source of info mr doug.

116k miles on my 97 awd with shift kit and end clutches with no major problems (knock on wood). :thumb:
Having IPT close by my house is like carrying an umbrella and it never rains :D
