ok my buddy got his 97 gti vr6 5spd and i had to open my big mouth and say i would beat him, btw i have a 98 GSX auto, intake, bov ic pipes, and we raced from a stop i kept up w/ him off the line but then he had like a car length.. wft turbo losing to a vr6 i was embarresed i kept OD off but i've been noticing w/ my car after around 4800 my boost is going down to about 9-10 psi and from 2800-about 4500 i am at 13psi.. i did the boost tester and everything is good what should i do????

check compression?
check plugs, wires, intake leaks, exhuast leaks before turbo,
make sure its running 100%

dont be embarassed man vr6's are good engines! mine is all stock and automatic and i like to play around with civics and ricers and stuff with only exhausts and intakes and i smoke the shit outta them...i beat a turbo mr-2 last week in my stock vr6! dont be that ashamed at least it wasnt a lil civic or somethin. like xcelr8n said check and make sure everything is 100% then hand it to your buddies gti :thumb:

i have brand new wires, plugs and fuel filter my 3inch exhaust will be on next week i should smoke him after that..... if i did a compression test and it was bad what could it be?

and how do u check for an exhaust leak

make sure ur power braking at ur launch and u can kinda hear for an exhaust leak or other than that u just have to look if there are any holes or something..You should be able to take him with the boost turned up a bit.

According to your profile, you're still on the T-25. That is why your boost is falling off in the upper RPM's, that tiny POS can't keep up with the demand put on it by the engine. Get a boost controller, exaust and set it at about 15-16 psi and then try again. Do a boost leak check too, with my first one I found a couple holes in the end tank of my stock SMIC about the size of a pin head each. ;)

PS. VR6's are nothing to laugh at, they're torquey little motors, my sister has a VR6 Jetta that has some pretty good pep for being stock.

brake boost the launch, and more importantly get a mbc and turn the boost up to 15psi. he shouldnt be as much of a problem then

That still won't matter, the T-25 will still drop off in the upper rpms, it's specifically designed that way.
And don't be embarrased to lose to a 6 cylinder torquey car, that probably weighs less than you. Oh and remember the T-25 is no 14b, so 2Gs can't pull a 1G thing on a stock turbo.
Mike

the t25 sucks no doubt, but going from the stock 11 psi to 15 on my car made it a lot faster, add on to that the huge increase in launch speed brake boosting gives and he definately would do much better... as to whether he would win or not i have no idea but both of my suggestions would certainly make the car quite a bit faster, even on the t25

Agreed. Boost will still fall off in the upper RPMs, but it'll be falling off from a higher PSI. And since he's AWD, he won't be as concerned with traction on the insta-spool T-25 as I was.

thanks i just ordered a turbo xs boost controller i'll set to 15 and my 3" exhaust will be on this week and 1g TB so i should kill him then,i'll let u guys know how it goes
i think i could of beaten him w/ what i have now i just had a shitty lauch i had OD off and powewr braked to 5psi but floored it right away, thats what i thik thr problem is u can't floor it too quick, i know if we raced from a 20mph roll i would of won but offline w/ awd auto isn't that great,YET :thumb:

also in few weeks i am going to IPT to get end clutch and shift kit, hope that helps :thumb:

it does, i just did it and its a nice upgrade for sure. shifts are much faster and dont drop you out or your powerband quite as much

My GTI VR6 went 14.63 totally stock which makes it faster than a 5 Speed GSX Turbo. These are typical results for guys racing the VR6 at the track. Most run high 14's on them totally stock on street tires. With only an intake and exahust I went 14.2 on my GTI. So your chances of beating a GTI VR6 are slim to none even with a boost controller unfortunately.

I find it funny you say it's embarrasing to lose to a car that is superior to your own. Your going to need a turbo upgrade to hang with him so don't talk any smack until you get a 16G my friend. :thumb:

Im a vw boy and just recently got into dsm tuning. VR6 will waaaaalk you dude that is a bad ass motor and the top end never stops.

not to mention that slush box is gonna fu ( k your game up.

o0o0o crap LOL, those cars are FWD though right?... this crap is making me think i should buy a VW now LOL they arent that expensive either.... and its not american so it wont break down like a peice of crapola LOL

Edit: Horsepower: 172 hp @ 5800 rpm
Torque: 173 lbs./ft. @ 4200 rpm

^VW GTI vr6 Vr6 Stats

Thats all? either its light as hell or something LOL, because wtf i thought the GSX's are pushing like at least 200 WHP stock... the only thing i could think of is that just because it was stick shift? i dont know LOL i'm confused i wanted to get a AUTO, but it they make you THAT slow then screw it LOL

Both cars are losing the % of power to the AWD always remember that...any of you guys know what the percentage is? i've heard 20-40% I don't know

Yeah 25% is the norm....there's no way a stock GSX makes 200 whp...granted I had some tuning and leak problems, but I made 220 whp at 17 psi at 6000 rpms....theres a lot more left out of there too. Mike

... so is more lose in the A/T part or the fact it is AWD? even if it does lose power.. its still better because you dont fly around the road LOL.... what can be done to decress the power loss?
