This how-to will show you how to remove the hvac (heater control assembly) from your 2g.
First, I must apologize. This process is difficult to explain in words and it is also difficult to take pictures of. I will do my best to explain the process thoroughly.
Thanks to snowborder714 for photography / photo editing.
1. Remove the center console, center console side panels, radio trim panel, radio, and the dash vents above the radio. If you cant get this far, youre in trouble.
2. Remove the 4 Phillips screws.
3. Remove all of the electrical connectors from the back of the hvac. Dont worry if you cant them all off now, you can get them later.
4. Using wire cutters or similar, cut the boss and clamp (2 white plastic tabs) from the hvac. You can access these from the drivers side.
The factory service manual says:
The second picture shows the hvac with the boss and clamp cut off already.
5. Open the glove box. Push down on the 2 tabs and remove them to allow the glove box to swing down.
6. Remove the cable by sliding the ring off the peg and popping the cable out of the metal retaining clip.
