This how-to will show you how to remove the hvac (heater control assembly) from your 2g.

First, I must apologize. This process is difficult to explain in words and it is also difficult to take pictures of. I will do my best to explain the process thoroughly.

Thanks to snowborder714 for photography / photo editing.

1. Remove the center console, center console side panels, radio trim panel, radio, and the dash vents above the radio. If you can’t get this far, you’re in trouble.

2. Remove the 4 Phillips screws.

3. Remove all of the electrical connectors from the back of the hvac. Don’t worry if you can’t them all off now, you can get them later.

4. Using wire cutters or similar, cut the boss and clamp (2 white plastic tabs) from the hvac. You can access these from the drivers side.

The factory service manual says:
The boss and clamp are needed for assembly line at the factory, but not needed for service work.

The second picture shows the hvac with the boss and clamp cut off already.

9. At this point the hvac is no longer attached to the car and can be removed. Remove the black and white plugs behind the radio to make the removal process easier.
