I have seen a couple of posts lately on people asking how to remove the balance shaft bearings. So I thought I would share the way I do it with out a bearing install tool.
Parts needed
Hammer or small sledge hammer
BS bearings new or old ones
Some socket extensions
A paper towel
A 32mm wheel socket mine is a Powerbulit from Checker Auto parts. Its the same one for your axle nuts.
The frist thing you want to do is knock out your old bearings. Take your 32mm wheel socket and line it up to the front bearing and slowly tap it out.
For the rear bearing take the 32mm socket and put some extensions on long enough to reach the rear bearing. Slowly tap out the rear bearing.(This is a pic of the rear BS but its just to show you the idea.)
Now how do you install them without crushing them? Thats the easy part, take your 32mm socket and turn it around (using the back side of the socket). Place the bearing on the backside of the socket. Tear some paper towel off and stuff it in between the bearing and the socket. The reason for this is to keep the bearing centered on the socket and help hold it.
Remember you have to install the rear one frist. For the extenisons you want to put them in the socket from the front! Where the nut would go. Here is the pic for the rear one ready to go in.
Its just like taking them out but your installing them now. Make sure you are not lining up the oil holes for the BS elimination or line the holes up if your keeping them. Do the rear then the front and your done.

The waringThe biggest thing you want to watch is make sure the paper towel is on the inside of the bearing and not the outside. After you get the bearing in just pull the socket out and pick up the paper towel and use them for the next bearing.
Now your done!
