Here in California, we have issues with theft and import haters. Not only that, but the Po-po is always on your back for any little thing they can see. I got so paranoid and frustrated with it, I decided to build my 1G as stealth as possible. Here's what I mean:

If you take a look at the inside of my cockpit, you'd have to look really really carefully to see that I had a 2 all-black guages in my center console that lightup the same color as the stock gauge clusters (yellow). That would be the only thing that visually looks 'aftermarket':

But once you open up the armrest...violla! Safc, turbo timer, and a lever to open and close my cutout which is installed on the downpipe:

I found a really nice place to mount my 1g pocketlogger as well. I got the idea from the mounting place people suggested for my 2g:

I had a shiftlight I wanted to install, but I didn't want it to be visually noticalbe...so I hacked it up and put the controller here:

And the light itself I rewired to an alarm light mounted next to the boost gauge here:

If you think that is stealth, wait till I get around explaining my engine LOL. But that'll be a post for a later day. You guys got any other ideas for being stealth? I plan on buying the Summit battery relocation kit and installing a car alarm wired directly to it, which will be inside the car, hidden. :D

Hey, where did you get your cutout from and how much was it? I've been looking for an electronically controlled one. The one's I've seen have a blockoff plate that you have to screw on and screw off, pita if you ask me.

A cutout is a "Y" in the exhaust system that releases exhaust gases earlier then the muffler. Some cutouts (such as mine) have a lever that allow you to close the "Y", allowing it to flow back through the cat and out the tail...or with it shutting off flow to the cat and right under the car (aka open downpipe). I like it because I can keep my stock muffler and not attract "Da Po-Po" LOL.

Mine is a manual plate that you pull/push on a lever to open/close it. I purchased it from JCWHITNEY. I plan to get a 2.5" downpipe with an electronic cutout mounted closer to the o2 housing. The manual one I have now doesn't seal as well as I'd like it to, so it sounds a bit throatier then stock. The electronic ones at www.quicktimeperformance.com i've heard seal solid, since it acts like a throttle body plate. I'd check them out, stock1g4g63, as that's where I plan on getting mine when I have the money (as if that'll happen soon).

Thanks again guys,

where did you get the center vent gauge holder? I have wanted one but always worrie that the heater would affect the gauge and how it reads. But i am running out of room andneed a new one

hey are those carbon fiber gauges?

They sure are. The picture of the shiftlight going off shows how the gauges look at night (really close to the stock orange of the main gauge cluster). Need a better pic then that?

where did you get your manual cutout from then?

www.jcwhitney.com . 39.99 now, it was a bit cheaper during the holidays. Fits from 2" up to 2.5". Also keep in mind its REALLY heavy. Mine almost needed its own hanger. I've changed my mind about mounting it closer to the O2 though. What I'd like to do is take mine off, get a 2.5" downpipe, and weld it a bit further down...like where the downpipe meets the stock cat. The 2.5 will give you better exhaust flow and with the cutout being further back, you won't lose as much backpressure. Mine is closer to the O2 housing and I notice alot of lowend loss.

where did you get the center vent gauge holder?

Mine came with the car. I've seen them on EBAY before. I'm debating of putting them in the glovebox next to my shiftlight controller (undecided). I don't really need to look at my psi unless i'm tuning.

The stereo is probably going to come out as well. Either a stock radio or none.

Thanks for the replys,

So is every DSM running around from San Fran to LA! T3/T4's on the street, 3" turbo back no cat, EGR blockoff plates...That's the reason why I started this with my car in the first place...the cold reality of California. Oh wait, you live here too :D

how does the exhaust going out directly from the downpipe compare to just a 3 inch turbo back? looks sweet

When I did research on this, I found people have said 3" straight back is the same as an open downpipe. In my experience, my cutout gives me more lag since the exhaust is release closer to the turbo, giving less backpressure...but it makes up for it up-top. And I can definetly feel the difference in where the power band feels like it begins with my gf's car and she has similar mods except 3" straight back. My car is mainly punched hard at the track, hardly on the streets, so I don't mind too much, but hopefuly my plan on a 2.5" and the cutout further back can pickup some backpressure and flow im loosing now.

Straight Line Specialties has all sorts of gauge/afc holders for the first gen, I believe.
