I agree. Painting it flat black would just open you up to questions like: "When are you going to have this hood painted?" or "What happened to your old hood?"

My 1G's flat black as a factory option.... with the help of nine years of California's sun.

It's not especially racey, though.

You might get flamed for this, just a little warning. But it's worth the money when you see the real cf weave on your hood. Also, save your hoodpins (when you get them) for your real cf hood. A low quality cf hood is better than even the best "black" painted hood with pear and metal flakes and etc. It's kind of like wearing a knock off rolex, I'd rather wear a real Timex then a fake rolex.

Don't "PRETEND" to have what you don't. If you want a CF hood, it will cost you the same as getting it painted. Unless you are using cheap paint from Walmart....Bottomline, don't be g a y. You will be made fun of. To make matters worse, even riceboys will laugh at you.

BTW..the fast and the furious Eclipse is g a y.

I agree, that's not very nice. It's kind of funny, because I have a friend who's gae, and she calls thing's gae all the time. I guess it's different when you're a girl or gae, or both. But seriously though, I don't think it's necessary to call anyone or anything harsh names to get your point across, it simply shows ignorance. If you don't like it, that's fine, but to each his own. If he's asking for opinions, it's possible to give it without bashing. C'mon now guys, we're DSM tuners, we have more class then that.

if we wanna get all literal etc

Its a repulsive thought that deserves to be on a honda forum, because thats who you find doing it most of the time.

and no primer black looks good on a car, unless its about a couple hours before its going to get painted. normal quality painted black hoods can be decent.

But trying to mimic it????

give me a break, dont be such a cheap ass and buy it, its not ridiculously exspensive.

i want one but im going to wait until i can afford to do it right.

:barf:
your response when you pull up and others get to see your car. who is it going to impress? i just see people going, What a pos.

that is ###, out of the norm and annoyingly attrotcious.

the whole www gets to use whatever they want to express something, me and the others choose that way. im not going to sit here and talk about a "not to use the word ###" thread

Well, I just got a red '90 Talon TSi AWD that came with a black Laser RS-Turbo. The red hood was really faded and the black hood was in great shape, so I went ahead and switched them.

It looks really good with the black top and black spoiler. I'm not saying to paint yours black, I'm just saying that it doesn't look as stupid as some people might think. But I'm not going to try and pass it off as CF.

At the same time, I agree with whoever it was that said that you're going to pay almost as much to have the hood painted as it would for the new CF hood. My vote goes to saving for the CF hood.

Faking CF:

1.) Paint hood [etc.] flat white. Allow to dry.

2.) Paint over white with flat black. While still wet, cover with burlap sack cloth, smooth down uniformly, and remove before the paint has cured. Be careful to avoid smudging.

3.) Allow flat black to cure.

4.) Coat with Krylon Clearcoat, ½-can per square foot.

Stand back and admire. Do not drive too slowly near CF owners, but at a good clip it'll look nearly as ugly as true CF.

Fake cf hood = :thumbdown

And look on eBay for the pins...There's a million different kinds on there and they're cheap as hell.

Just tell people it's already carbon fiber, and that you painted it the same color as the car because you didn't want people to steal it. Everyone will believe you, I swear. And if they wanna race, tell them you have NOS. Ttwo bottles. The big ones.
