hey guys, i got a dilemma, see ive always wanted hydrolics since i first seen a local lowrider, and now with the advent of air ride systems its possible to add the same effect to almost any car, i want this air ride system, but i also want subs in my trunk, anyone have a system and an air ride system? anyone know if it will all fit? the removal of the rear seats is out of the question, any help would be great, thanks all :thumb:

phew good thing you spotted that, imagine if you hadnt corrected me, no one would know what i was talking about

What kind of car do you have.? It isn't listed, If a 2g, I'm sure you can fit subs and a compressor/equipment.. Not sure about a 1g, because I've actually never been in one. =(

oops, i should've specified, its a 2g, ive seen actually a lot of photos of 1gs with the air ride system and subs, 2gs on the other hand all have the rear seats removed

Well... I would be nice to be able to raise it for bumps with a flip of a switch but they are hella expensive. And they are heavy.

Yea, I was looking at one down the road.. It would be nice to drive lowered, but then when I needed to actually drive around town (Myrtle Beach area roads are the most uneven mountains....) be able to raise it up without all the hassle.. Of course, I have a spyder, so it would pose a bit more of a problem short of filling in my entire back seat area.. But hey, down the road, I'm sure I will have an air ride suspension in my eclipse.

I do electronics work for a local car club, they have 20+ cars/trucks with air ride, one of them is a 1997 GST.He still has a full backseat and a system with subs, and I swear the thing rides/handles better than my stock suspension 98 GSX.And they are not really that expensive, unless you wanna hop and shit like that, then you need an extra compressed gas tank too(more space and money)

any chance you can get photos of the set up? or at least describe it to me :thumb:

I've never seen the hatch area, but the compressors are small and the tanks are small, so I don't see much of a problem with any setup.I'll snap some pics next time I see him. 1 small compressor + 1 small tank + sub box = easy

that does sound pretty easy to me as well, i was under the impression that the tanks were big, maybe thats just for the contest rides or something?

(i dont know much bout this at all so forgive my ignorance)

The tank only has to hold enough air to raise the car once(and only a couple of inches), then the compressor kicks in and fills the tank back up.In hopping type setups, a rather large tank of compressed nitrogen is used, but for street setups only a small refillable air tank is required.

ok i actually have some good insight on this subject in a way. First off it would be possible for a small tank, compressor, and subs, but with that set up you would only be able to fill the bags up once before you would have to let the tanks fill back up as mentioned above. One of my good friends use to own I-Hop air development out of sacramento CA. they had a s-10 that hopped 42 inches with the front tires, it was a sight to see, he personally has owned 2 expiditions with air bags, one of them was a complete show only vehical that hopped 18 inches all four tires. anyways with the set up mentioned above you wouldnt be able to have fun with the bags by playin around with them every once in a while. i would suggest taking out your spare tire and usuing that unused space for some of the components. you should be able to fit two mid sized tanks, and subs in the back with maybe a mid sized compressor in the spare tire area. for this you might need to build a costum secure rack so you can stack the tanks. also you wont ever get your car to hop with out spendin loads of money for a few reasons. one car have sub frames instead of a full frame so if the car was to hop you would crinkle the car, unless you had the frame modified. and as for nitrogen bein used to make cars hop yes it works great but usually you will have the nitrogen bottle out side of the car hooked up to your lines. and helium will work better then nitrogen because helium molecules are tighter and closer together then nitrogen so its easier for them to flow through the lines and this makes it faster. Well any questions just ask.

I agree with you for everything exept the nitrogen/helium thing.I'm no chemist ,but if I remember right nitrogen is denser than helium(so nitrogen molecules are closer and tighter) and the viscosity of helium is greater than nitrogen. So without getting technical(laminar/turbulent flows) I would have to say nitrogen flows better.

you might be right, like i said it was a friend of mine who owned the shop so im not fully sure, but i do know that they used helium and not nitrogen like most of the other shops do. and i do know that there wasnt ever a contest for bags that they didnt take 1st 2nd and 3rd if they had three vehicals in the contest. they also had their valves specially made in germany. so it may have been their valves that were making them better then most shops in california. anyways back to the subject like i said before if you built a custom rack for the tanks you could easily fit it all in, you might want to make a costum sub enclosure that way you could work around the tanks and compressor.

Eric

how big of a tank would you say would be needed to be able to have fun with it?

and yea custom enclosure is a must, im going for a show interior, or at least show enough for my tastes

ok well i have a 2g but i dont remember the demensions of the trunk/hatch but a 12lbs tank is almost 4 feet in lenght, so if you have enough room lenght wise for 4ft then get two 12' bottles and stack them, but then you will need a prtety big compressor but if you are building a custom sub enclosure then you could make it work. and that would give you more than enough air to play areound with. but you need a compressor big enough to fill those tanks up farily fast. or maybe two compressors that way you dont get stuck in the dirt waiting for the tanks to fill.

hey sorry i just got back from the bars so myh spelling im sure inst the best.

eric

12lb tank 4 feet??? your spelling isn't the only thing that is off.We are talking about an eclipse here, not a truck. You only need a small amount of air to raise the car(a couple of inches) of the ground.A one small compressor and a one small tank will be more than enough for a car(that sits pretty low to the ground anyway).I doubt you wanna hop your car, but even if you wanna show off some, one tank of compressed nitrogen(or helium for some reason I can't figure out) will be more than enough.Check out some shops around the internet and you will see.Air setups are popular these days, you should be able to look around and find what you are looking for.

I'm sure it will fit, if not make it fit i'm dropping some air cylinders into my 97 gst and i plan on fiberglassing my subs and amps back there to so go for it.........
