Sleepy Eyes [Merged 9-7] snake snakeyes half chicklet mod

I searched the forum for this one, and asked on other forums, but I can't seem to get a good answer. The link on the VFAQ is dead too.

I want to mod my pop-up headlights so they will stay down when the lights are on and shine thru the shine thru lenses (what a novel name!) But I still want them to pop-up when I hit the pop-up switch on the dash.

I've asked on other forums and either nobody responds or I just get "cut the wires/pull the fuse" kind of answers. I don't want a hack job and I still want the lights to pop-up with the dash switch. Does anybody know the right way to do this mod?

You could always use some other light switch in your car (like parking lights, etc) to turn on the headlights, and then just keep the headlight motor wired to the factory switch.

I know there is a specific way to do it. It used to be on the VFAQ but the page is gone now and I don't recall what it said. I was hoping I could find the info again instead of tracing wires through the car.

passenger side kick panel, pull it out

there is a set of wires in there with small white resistors in line. pull one of those out {keep this just in case}

test the lights

after this mod, you must hit the head light up and down button to get it the lights to pop up, they will not do it on their own now.

well there is a way you can manage this and all it takes less then a minute to do. Open your hood and remove the pink fuse for the headlights in the fuse box.

Hey guys..this might be a newbie question but i have seen this mod on a few 1G cars..it is the mod where the pop up headlights dont flip up and show through the lenses in front? i read a breif description on just taking out the popup motor fuse if your too lazy to take your dash apart. but i would like to get the whole story..if anyone knows where the sight is to do this or has directions please post! much apreciated..

what i did was just disconnect the headlight motors. I just poped the hood and pulled off the connector that goes to the motor. they stay down now and look real nice.

Did this affect your foglights? i read somewhere it will cause them to not go on

all you have to do is pull the solenoid... it is on the passenger side right by the door underneath the panel and it is a little white box that will have 3 connectors on it, just pull that out of the connector and then you can control you headlights like this.
turn them on.... the lights stay down and they come one
turn lights off... push the button on the dash to pop the lights, then turn you lights on and then you will have normal useage of the lights.
this will not affect your fogs in any way.

sorry im asking so many questions on this so if i hit the button to flip up the lights and turn them on..they will work like they should be stock but if i just turn my lights on without the button they will stay down and show through the grill?

there are some pic of a white 1g with what you are looking for. imo just looks like the motor for the lights went out.

i know what ur talkin about. i had a probe. you had to splice a wire to a button. so u held it in and the more u held it in the higher the lights would rise. we called it sleepy eyes. i dunno where u could find it on for a 1g though. just wanted to let u know u werent crazy and someone knows what ur talkin about.

i keep mine down. its a little dimmer then if they were up but with some brighter fog bulbs its the same and gives the car a meaner look IMO.

theres a little truny knob under the hood right beside each pop up to adjust how high it pops up. play around with it untill you find the right hieght an have some fun man.
