I was referring to the rear hatch (they only make 2 things for my car and I already have a CF hood).

Fenders seem like more of a fashion statement to me...

I suggest laying off the ring dings vs. spending however much on CF fenders to people, but that's just me.

I had a fender off and I could throw it around like a frisbee.

God damn 900 for a 1G hood? thats nuts i think i paid like 500 including shipping for mine.

That makes the hood approximately 686 dollars.

I'll take my chances with a 450 dollar hood and run some hood pins.

The problem with the 450 dollar hood isn't that it will break, it's that it's mostly not carbon fiber. Less $$$ = less weight savings.

The amount of weight saved between fiberglass and carbon in two layers over a square footage of around 10 square feet is neglegible for the price. As in a few ounces.

You'd be better off emptying your bowels and bladder before you drove your car.

carbon fiber is not that expensive. Im buying some for my project and it 30$ a yard. It the 'resin' that cost too much. Like 100$ buck a gallon. I could do parts for much cheaper than those guys. anyway don t buy cf parts for weight reduction, only do it because of the look because the difference in weight is not enough. the plastic parts are not that heavy. The hatch is heavy because of the window no because of the hatch himself. In other word cf is cool looking but not a good alternative for weight reduction.

I agree with rolemodel in that things like carbon fiber mirrors will not make your car go faster or handle better. I will however say that a number of supercars have a complete body of carbon fiber. I can imagine there being some good weight reduction over a Talon if the entire thing was carbon fiber. They make satelittes out of this stuff cause its meant to be very strong and weigh less than metals. If anyone has seen what carbon fiber looks like on a satelitte then you could tell the difference between that and what they make for cars. It is mainly about looks and not function, which is the opposite of what it was designed for.

???

fiberglass is 50% heavier than carbon fiber. most of the cheaper hoods weigh 15 lbs. true carbon fiber hoods weigh 8 lbs. 7 lbs is quite a bit more than a few ounces.

Yup my vis weighs about that. The stock hood is a bear. You just don't realize how much it weighs until you get it off. id say my vis is about 10 lbs i think the epoxy coating ads about 2 lbs of total weight. (im guessing that clear cover is epoxy), not 100% sure. it is one shiny bi*** i tell you that:p
