hey garthkid how much did you tighten the bolts for the valve cover

I just looked this up this morning for my own use: 2-3 ft-lbs. Very little. This was an interesting thread about the CAS. I was going to chime in, but am not too familiar with the 420A engines.

The reason the spark doesn't car if the sensor is 180* out is because our ignition setup fires two plugs at once: waste spark. Having the injectors 180* out would definitely cause driveability problems.

ok so 2 -3 lbs, but the one problem i have is my torque wrench is one of those ones with the arrow so it doesn't measure that accurate. I just put a 10mm socket on an extension and tightened it as much as i could without using the ratchet. Will this be good enough? sorry about the question i 'm sure its stupid but i need to know so i don't crack the cover

thanks for the help

I didn't use a torque wrench, I just guessed. Been driving all morning and so far everything seems fine.

Well, I don't know too much about the 2g nt motors but do they even have a distributorless ignition?

Yes, an ignition with coil packs instead of a distributor. I know they are chrystler motors so they are differeent than the mitsu's but I don't know HOW much different.

Just wondering if I can do it in half a day. Any certain gaskets to avoid??? I will be doing this with a oil change. Thanks for the fast imput.

It's a fairly easy job. Definitely takes less than an hour to do, as long as you have all the gaskets needed. (There will be 6 total, and you can get them through Conicelli and other places usually) Just don't overtighten any bolts when you put the valve cover back on or you may either strip out the head or crack your cover.

I just had my replaced by the dealership today and it was only $25 for the gasket!!!

Yeah, I think they average about $25, make sure you get a tube of "Right Stuff" and put it on the half moon part to keep it from leaking there...

Yeah but that is for a 2g... i have a 1g. and i wouldnt let anyone touch my car but me. But speaking of which .. i wont be driving my car for a while because of the hose that broke that messed up my turbo. Oh well.

i got mine at an AutoZone too and i payed about 25 bucks for the gasket which came with o-rings as well, plus a tube of silcone sealant for about 3bucks. No labor charges cuz i banged it out pretty fast and easy.

it took me about 30 mins to do it. and that was taking beer breaks to so about 20. if you have all the tools and stuff like that it really easy
