Hey, I didnt know where to put this. but anyway, I have a VIS Stock CF hood.

I dont know if I like the look of it anymore. How much weight am I saving over a stock Hood?

I wanted to painted, but upon really close inspection. I can see imperfections. The imperfections are masked by the design of the CF hood, but If it gets painted, I am sure they would show.

Should I spend the $200 to get the hood painted, and hope that the imperfections dont show through?

Or should I just try to find someone willing to trade their stock 97-99 Silver hood + some cash, for my hood?

a few good coats of primer and then your paint and clear SHOULD cover any blemishes over/ Yes, there is a bit of weight savings so I would say keep it and paint it like the car. If it is primed and such you should be fine....unless it is like some serious blemishes!

Sorry guys. I would need someone who has a silver 97+ car.... and is local. I was charged $150 just to get this thing shipped to me. And its light.

Plus I am not sure what I want to do. I oringinally wanted to find someone who could make the hood clear silver(so that people could see the CF)

But now, I see these imperfections. Plus I have to put in some hood pins. I want the car to look good. If I paint it, and see a bunch of flaws, or if flaws start showing up, I will be pissed. Plus I dont know if I like the look of hood pins.

But if the CF hood is helping me cross into the 2999lbs and below, then I will want to keep it.

Pretend it's a Corvette and Bondo the hell out of it, and block it down to level. Only you will know your dirty little secret.

awww...that's sooo true too LOL

A cf fiber hood isn't going to give you any noticeable performance gains. I think I've heard you save maybe 40lbs. at most with it. You already have it though and it's not like it's hurting anything, so you might as well use it..paint it silver to match your car if you don't like the look of it.

its 30 lbs less which is .030 off your qtr mile time. worth it? HELL NO!

Hmmm, i will consider it. Hey, do you happen to have your stock sideskirts? Your car looks friggin nice. I had the Full Blitz body kit on my car. But I traded it off, because the mold was not good, and the kit didnt fit right.

As for keeping the hood. I will have to think about it for now. I know some of the AAM(3000GT) guys will be dissappointed if I get rid of the hood. The 3000GT has crappy carbon fiber hoods.

does anyone have a pic of a CF hood painted? i'd be interested in doing that if it looked good. i have seen the red CF hoods and they look ### as all hell. if it matched the car then that would be kinda cool. i am so used to my hood i can't even imagine it not being CF color. i hate when people ask me why my hood is black though. i'm always like "i have no idea what you are talking about... My hood is carbon fiber not black" they just look at me funny. thanks everyone!

u can get the c/f hood sprayed in any kandy color, lets say ur cari s red spray the hood with kandy apple red,and since candy paint is clear u can still see the carbon fiber with a strong red tone.. looks sweet ive seen it before...

wow, that sounds awesome. i wish i had an example to see what it would look like on a red car. i have seen the red ones you can buy and i didnt really like them that much. mainly because the red wasnt really even close to the red on my car. i will have to do some searching :thumb:

Silver car here in Northern VA, dunno why it needs to be 97+ but PM me if you want.

I would like to do that, but I dont know how silver would look. Plus I dont know who could do it.

About the 97+, vs 95/96, is the silvers are different.
