I was looking at the "split hood" kit on autoloc.com, and was wondering if anyone knew enough about carbon fiber to tell me if there would be any problems cutting a CF hood in half in order to do this. Would there be uneveness? or any frailing of the CF at the edge of the cuts. Any input would help:thumb:

well, I was actually thinking about it, because I really REALLY didn't wanna put hood pins on my car, and with the hood splitting open instead of opening from the front I wouldn't have to worry about it flying off on the freeway. But now, I just realized I could put it backwards like the vettes, plus it looks almost as cool as the split hood thing.

The weaves would seriously begin to come undone IMO.

Nah, it won't come undone as far as the weave is concerned. The carbon fabric is solid with resin. If you cut it or drill holes it will stay together just fine!
What I WOULD worry about is the gel coat blistering where you cut. It might lift by the edges. You would have to seal the edges back up with a clear or a light coat of resin just to be safe. Drilling hole for pins is one thing but cutting the hood in half like that you are compromising the integrity.
When my hood cracked against my windshield I left it on the car for awhile. You could see air between the gel coat and the carbon fiber where it cracked in areas...water also got in there and made the hood heavy.
Take it for what its worth.

Post pics, and, like said in another thread, if you do the vette thing u can hardly see the turbo(form the side)

well, I thought about that, the corvette thing will make it harder to work on my car, but I still wanna do the split hood thing, but I wanna to it with the Xtreme GT hood. What if I put on some clear coat and those rubber lining things (like on the windows) across the edge.
