My friend is making me a carbon fiber body kit. I have a blue talon, what would everyone think of a car with a carbon fiber front/rear bumper and side skirts, with a black top, and blue sides?? Some people said it would look hot, but i dont think it will go well together. Is there a way to paint over carbon fiber?

Hmm your friend is making you a carbon fiber body kit...yeah ok...is he doing this for free cuz if so damn he must be a good friend to do all that damn work for a kit that will be pointless...

If he is a good friend....and has some free time and wants to experiment with it, I think it'd be a good idea. I know there's people on the local air force base (eglin) here that get carbon fiber and are taught how to mold and create it for airplane use. They get an abundance of it and can use it for whatever they want..i.e. cars, and it's free to them.

Eglin? Really? I live very near to you. I should be getting a 91 TSi Friday. Hmmm, could you hook me up with a phone number to one of these people? I would actually pay for their services.

I am buying the carbon fabric which is going to cost me 400. And I am giving him like $100 labor charge.

I am curious if he is actually going to make molds for you and then actual replacement parts? Or just laminate over the OEM part and pull it after building up the surface. $400 in carbon fiber...what about all the resins and gel coats ($$$$$)
And most importantly making those molds is going to cost him the most money and time unless you are buying the mold materials also. To do this properly he would have to make a mold of your car parts...Fenders, MAYBE a one part mold...Side skirts I see being 2 part mold.
He is going to have to take your parts, prep and apply mold release, gel coat, plenty of resinated fiberglass...etc....soooo for $100 dollars in labor he is going to be kickin' himself in the ass 2 weeks down the road and still working on molds. I am not doubting you but I have sat thru many meeting with composite shops getting quotes and that is TRUELY A FRIEND if this is the case for you. Or he is looking for practice and a rep.
Go into photoshop and get the black brush out and see what it will look like 2 tone like you said, I think it will look good...but I see it sprayed differently than most would.
