Well just got a used '99 mitsubishi eclipse GS-t and didn't come with manuals. I was wondering how you replace the bulbs on the fog lights.. took a look and not sure where exactly to get to the bulb. Pulled out the cover and examined it..has like 4 oddly shaped screws (not x or flathead) and was wondering if that needs to be undone before getting to the bulb..otherwise... is it in the rear?

thanks-lacir

It's a p.i.t.a. It's not too bad if the weather hasn't effected it too badly, ie rust from snow and salt. You have to unscrew the large screw with the spring on it. Take the whole light out and unplug it to make it easier on yourself. Then on the bottom of the assembly there is a half moon looking piece of metal with three screws. make sure you press down hard when unscrewing those otherwise you can strip the screws and then you'll be screwed. Afther that replace the light and put every theing back togeather.

H-3 halogens, real foglights. Available in 55W (stock), 65W, 100W and 130W. That's real bulbs, not blue baloney. I hate the blue bulbs- I think the wattage ratings on them are lies. Stick with Sylvania or Philips bulbs.

Yuppers, H-3- you have to pull the light to install them. Don't touch the lens of the bulb, hoping you'd know that. Wal*Mart and up should have the bulbs. Funny-looking thing with the wire coming sideways off the tail, held in with a wire clip. The pic is of one with the lead wrapped around the base, some pinhead must've gotten hold of it.

No, 1Gs use some piddley little toy bulb (it's not noted which one in the owner's manual, just 25W), but they still work pretty well for what they are. I'm not sure exactly what the deal is on them, some of them have the black cat head logo on them, which is the French Marchal brand, but there's no mention of Marchal on them anywhere. Mustangs used round ones also with the Marchal cat head, don't know their story either.
Hang on, I think I have a package in the garage:shhh: .
Here we go, I have a package of 885, but the bulb I have inside is an 894. Compare them on the rack at Kragen or whatever, and get the one with the larger filament- I think it's 35W instead of 25W... they're a goofy little L-shaped thing with a molded plastic bayonet mount. I don't know why they won't tell us wattages in this country, I guess the Nazi... er, NTSB knows what's best for us. Bleeding effers.

its cake p8nt (unless you have a stripped foglight screw like me!) cant take longer than 10 min.

oh, ill make it take longer than 10 minutes ;)

did i ever tell you the story of how i ended up having to buy a new mas when i was installing a filter? if this bulb swap goes anything like that it will cost me 200$ and take 3 days :D

Coincidentally, i tried replacing them today with PIAA H3's. I took off the plastic fender cover, took off 2 torx screws, removed the long adjuster screw and opened the foglight case to expose the bulb --- and then what's next? i took a cotton towel to pull the bulb out but it wont budge so i did not force it. Where does the wire of the h3 connect? there is a black tubing that runs from the foglight to the connector to the left.

Any help to take the bulb out will be appreciated. Thanks.

I searched but could not find any info on how to change the fog light on my 2G GSX. What do I need to do to be able to change the bulb? Also, if you could provide instructions on how to change the casing for the fog light. It is cracked. Thanks!!

Well I can tell you it is a bit of a biotch... you have to take the whole unit out..

Step 1) Remove front black cover... (screw up on top corner)
Step 2) Unscrew the mounting screws (I think there is one on each side)
Step 3) Unplug the wire connection going to the unit
Step 4) Pull the entire unit out
Step 5) look on the bottom of the unit, there will be 3 small screws that look like sunflowers (not sure what the real name is), unscrew them
Step 6) Take the plate off
Step 7) Replace bulb, don't touch bulb with fingers, it will reduce the life of the bulb
Step 8) Put it all back together:thumb:

It is pretty awkward trying to get the units out and off the car, especially the side with the intercooler because of the duct work that goes to the intercooler. For the easiest way to change them you can take off your front bumper. While this may seem a little extreme, let me tell you, it will save you a lot of time dicking around trying to get your hands to fit into those small areas. That is just a suggestion, I was able to get mine out and changed without taking the bumper off, but there was a lot of cursing involved.

ok my fog lights dont work...is there a fuse for them? when i had a gs convertible it was out too, is this a common problem? please let me know how i can fix it thanks

:dsm: fabian:dsm:

before i check that is there a fuse....and one more thing, behind the gauge cluster there are bulbs to light up things right....well if i didnt have a bulb in there will that cause my cruis control not to work if the cruise control bulb wasnt in there?

The illumination bulb for the cruise control shouldn't have any effect on the cruise control system itself, so yes, it should work. As for your fog lights, another thing to consider is possibly a bad fog light switch.

The fog fuse is in the engine compartment, and yes, the fog switch is junk. Try pressing in on it very slowly, and stop when it first clicks. It's supposed to latch like a ballpoint pen, but they wear out or some damned thing.

Try it in the dark to see if they come on at all.

There's a fix out there somewhere, need to disassemble the switch and
remove something.
Can we swap in another spare switch in its place?
Like the rear defroster switch ?
