i'm plannin on gettin' 2 12's subs i dont know what kind though. there are so many. Which ones do u think sound good?? Thanx ahead of time.

Skip on the set of 12's and get one JL w7 10 inch, I checked this out a few months ago and it pounds harder that any set of twelves that won't cost you an arm and a leg. It was like $500 with that custom box. Well worth it! Or go nuts and get the 13.5 inch. that thing is insane. but costs $1000 with the box.

One nice sub doesn't even describe it........#@$k'N nutty.......well that does! :D

I currently have one 12" 'Fosgate Punch HX2 (DVC)

I'm running about 600 watts to each voice coil and it hits hard.
I got it at ABC Warehouse for about $350. Not the cheapest out there, but you get awesome power, flexable wiring options, and a little extra cargo space.:)

I'm a bit of a bass head, although more of an audiophile. The sound is clean, and it seems to cover quite a wide range for a 12" speaker. However, when I have that itch for a little extra 'thump' this baby performs!

The thing to consider when selecting subwofer size is, what kind of music do you listen to the most. Or what frequency range do you need to cover.
10"ers will (generally) have a quicker and "punchier" response, while 12"ers will give that nice deep rumble. Ideal for rock and hip-hop. If you're into Jazz, classical, or techno/trance you might be better off with a 10" sepeaker.
If actual loudness is what you're after, (generally speaking again) the more surface area of the cone/s you have, the more air the speaker is going to push. And as a result, the sound is going to hit harder and louder.

Since I have 6x9s in the back, I get a good amount of rear fill, and the larger woofers do a good job of covering higher bass notes.
A twelve was ideal for my application because there was minimal overlap. If you're running stock rear speakers you may want to think about tens to extend into the "high-low" range.

Either way, subwoofers are almost a necessity. One you've got 'em, it's impossible to live without them!:thumb:

Best of luck with your shopping! -Dave

Edit: I should add that the largest factor to keep in mind if you're going for pure loudness, is RMS power. I've got a buddy that has three 10" JBLs. He's running about 180 watts to each. If we put our cars side by side, you can barely hear his music. All that extra cone square footage doesn't hurt him, but with wimpy power, it doesn't make much of a difference.
I should also point out that they are 8ohm speakers, but that's a conversation for a more in depth topic.
Maybe we should start a sound system forum in the "super tuner's" forum for that kind of stuff?!? -D.

No problem man. ;) If you need any help with the install or anything, drop me a PM or post here. I should pick it up.

Peace,
Dave

2 diamond m6 12's is the way to go. i am running a 1600 watt earthquake amp to them and i come in at 150.4. im not even running full power to the subs either. they can handle 500 per coil. think if i was running them at full power. diamond also makes a line that is more expensive but ungodly loud. i believe that they are piston subs.

only thing with getting just 1 sub is that youll have to get a VERY big amp just to get enough power to that one sub.with the more used 2 sub setup you can take a amp like a fosgate punch 60(old school one) and make it into a beast running it bridged parallel(think i spelled that right :) but if you run just one sub off it the amp puts hardly any power out and in turn you dont get much out of your sub, unless the one sub was a DVC in that case youll be able to bridge parallel the amp useing the extra voice coil as another sub but wether thats good for the sub im not for sure bc i hate DVC subs :)..

so i would take the $500 that one sub costs and put it in 2 12" (i think Hollywoods,JL's are the best) and get a custom made box for your car youll like the way eveything looks and it WILL sound very good if you get a good amp but thats just me :thumb:

Good Luck and have fun

also i have to agree with Eclipse96Ryder bazooka's are VERY VERY nice and they save space as well,i dont think the sub itself is a very good sub but the box's are the best.long time ago i had 2 6" hollwood subs in bazooka boxs and they were evey bit BASSY as 2 12" subs and lasted a long time but a few months back i got a 10" bazooka and my fosgate punch 60 tosted it in about a week so if you can run into some empty bazooka boxs or some for little of nothing i would go for it IMHO

I also have Rockford Fosgate 12' Punch, and a Rockford Amp 600w. One is more then enough for hatch, it really bumps... enough to make my ears tingle. I woudlnt want anymore... my car would fall apart.

Go the JL Audio w7 route. They are one of the best "all-around" subs out there right now. They can get friggin loud, and sound phenomenal too (even at high levels).

I am eventually going to run 1 12w7 off of an Arc Audio 2500-cxl (giving it roughly 1200-1300 clean watts rms)

I currently run a pair of their 12W3's in ported enclosures, along with their top of the line 3-way components in my old car, and all I have to say, is i've been really impressed with JL's speakers.

This is just my opinion, but you can ask my bro's over at www.elitecaraudio.com if you want about 5,000 other options. If you have the cash, go w7 style.

You can e-mail or PM me if you want to talk more about it, or want to know more why I am going to go the route that I am.

(I can send pics of my fiberglass work, not that great to look at, but sounds good...)

If you would like a better answer, what I/we really need to know is:

1. Your budget, how much are you willing to spend on the sub, amp, wiring, and anything else (paying to have it installed, or DIY?)

2. What are you going for, SQ (sounds extremely good), or SPL (gets really loud)

3. Are you going to make your own sub box, or buy a premade?

4. What kind of music do you listen to?

If you can answer these, then you will get a much better answer.

fist of all u don't have to have a giant amp to run 1 sub....they make subs in 2ohm and 4 ohm . i have 1 jl w7 13.5 with a phoenix gold mono titanium series 800.1 . i had a shop put it in so i don't know how its wierd up but it hits real hard. i went to this from 4 power rf dvc 10's being pushed by a old power 250.2.. i got alot more space now. i hit 148.9 dec on the dash with my old set up.. havent tested my new one yet.. but i can say it hits hard as ####.. sound quality is good too.. i have mb quarts all the way around. i love my new set up!!!

Well, in my opinion I would go with kicker. JL is nice and all but you can't beat a kicker overal. I would say two of the sLOLo 12's or the vr 12's would be as much as you want unless you are a SPL freak like myself. Thats my 2 cents worth...

I have 2 Fusion Power Plant 10" subs. They hit pretty nice. But I would go for the JL w7. My friend has a 10, and it hits harder than my subs. My other friend has the 13.5. OH MY GOD! Its the loudest single sub I have ever heard. Get the JL. Kicker's are nice, too. The 12" L7 is nice.

I'd go with SoloBaric L7s. I amn running two 12" L7s with a Fosgate punch power amp.

Jester

If you want quality and an affordable price go with memphis. I have 2 Memphis studio 12s in my 96 with 400 watts on each of them and they hit so hard. they sound really good and go for about 150 a pop.
