as soon as i get a few higher priorities out of the way in terms of my car, i want to do some interior work. my car is the stock grey color and i will either be repainting it that color or a darker grey. the exterior will be pretty much blacked out. i was just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on a color scheme that would go real well with my car. thanks:dsm:

Hmmm.... blacked out exterior as in your going to paint the car black?.... if so.... your idea of dark grey would work, black, or even Silver..... try and stay away from the bright colors, and try and keep the whole car down to 3 basic colors, at most.:thumb:

i couldnt think of the word i wanted for the exterior. not so much blacked out as dark. which is why i want a darker grey and gunmetal or black rims, black lights. i was thinking of painting the grey on the inside of my car black and doing a couple spots in blue. would that go good?:dsm:

Well Ive seen a black car go great with Red painting inside with like red racing seats and all. I did white because it made my car stand out. And if your doing something wrong paint wise post the problem. Painting correctly is the key to making the interior look nice

Hi
I do not recommend painting your interior.
I painted all my interior. It took about 3 weeks
and quite a bit of money for the proper color.
I am now paying someone 1500 dollars to vinyl
the whole car.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT PAINT. It will look
like shit.
Paint what you cannot vinyl.
I will be getting pics of before and after soon if you
are interested.

I painted mine black and a dark red. Looks great and only took me a week to remove everything paint it and then re install it. Cost me under $50 to do it all too.
Silver and black would look really good with a grey car.

If you do paint it take your time and prep! Sure you are excited and probally want to have it done so you can show it off the next day...but don't! Buy SEMS vinyl prep and SEMS plastic prep. Also maybe get Bulldog adhesion promoter for the plastic (not vinyl). As long as you prep good the paint or dye will stay.
But if you CAN NOT spray with a rattle can then it doesn't matter how much you prep...you'll have good adhesion but a crappy interior. AKA-most Hondas!!! Never use Armour All or other oily cleaners on the dash previous to painting either or afterward. Very few ever get great results with a can. I did mine that way and it hasn't flaked or peeled in over 2 years...not one drip, run or crack so far. Looks proffesional but the choice of colors at the time was not right...I have since gone to all carbon fiber and black (still need to lose the blue)
Point is...take your time and use the right materials. Any body supply shop will have SEMS. Pep Boys and such doesn't.

I would recommend if you are going to paint the vinyl and you are going to go with a dark colors using dyes instead of paint on the vinyl. It wont shine, but usually that not what you really go for on things that are vinyl. The dyes with last practically forever and you wont have any problems getting it to stick. If paint the plastics go with a good plastic prep. And dont use those paints that are supposed to "bond" to plastics like that Krylon Fusion shit. If you spray that stuff on the plastic in your car without prep then it will just run off of it. Light sanding with about the finest gritt sand paper or memory paper you can find (DO NOT scrath or damage the plastic serface. Sand just enough to remove the glossy finish on the plastic), a good brand of plastic prep primer, smooth layers of high quality paint, and plenty of layers of a clossy clear coat with work well.

i sanded a section of the top part of my door with 220 grit paper... and then sprayed it with krylon to see if it would stick, and i can say that it is a little tacky still, but if i scrape it with a key, it wont come off.. ill post pics if i paint my entire door...

haha, u got that pic from ebay! Cuz the fool was saying he was going to charge people to tell them how to do it. I did most of that to mine. The only thing I didn't do was the Door panels. well.. i did the door panels just not that much, i didn't see a point in doing the guard rails n stuff since people usually kick them when they get out of my car. It would just piss me off to see them dirty...

you CAN paint it and it will look great! there is some great info in the replies, follow those and you should be good. i used SEM on mine too. and as mentioned above, get the vinyl prep and the plastic prep. it helps the paint bond to the plastic. mine has been painted like this for a year and a half. still looks great...aside from the white is dirty and hard to keep clean! take your time and spray in LIGHT COATS! good luck:thumb:
