Swannanoa,
anyone put an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry on their eclipse? just wondering the difficulty being my car has some kind of security system (but not really) when you press the power door lock a green security light comes on in the gauge cluster and an alarm will go off if you open the car anyway other then using the key. i was wondering if you have to somehow bypass this when installing a keyless entry or what??? thanks!

I am glad I am not the only one who had the "green light of death." I installed a Clifford, and It was OK when arming the system, but when we disarmed it, all hekk would break loose.

That said, I cannot remember how we got round the problem. If nobody else on here can tell you how to get round it, I will call the guy that did my Install and ask him. He will remember because he spent an extra 4 hours trying to figure it out in the snow.

Geez....my aftermarket alarm and stock alarm fought all the time. Both of those mofos would be going off sometimes. One day my aftermarket alarm just stopped going off, but the keyless entry worked. This actually was the perfect solution. Now i have keyless entry and the factory alarm still works!

yeah, i don't have a remote control or anything for the factory alarm...it's just the kinda thing where it will go off if you don't open the door with the key....you turn it off by using the key. so i'm thinking i'll be in trouble if i get an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry....because i'll unlock my doors with the remote and the factory alarm will go off because i didn't use the key!!! ahhhhh! i dunno what to do or if it's even worth the trouble of messin with.

It is worth doing it to get better protection. There is also a simple solution, I just can't remember it. I will call the guy tomorrow and ask what he did (It is 9.10pm here now) and let you know.

espydur-

Yep. that's exactly what would happen to me! It gets annoying!

There are various factory alarm bypasses out there. Basically your factory alarm is seeing the door unlock from the inside and that is programmed as a no-no. The permise of it is, a thief breaks a window, reaches in and unlocks the door to gain entry. If you ever arm the system with a passsenger in the car, and they unlock the door and get out, you will get the same effect.

Since aftermarket remote locks work by tugging the inside unlock rod, that is what the alarm sees. I think the best solution, if you installed a new alarm, is a wiring harness that bypasses the factory brain completely. Any car audio shop that does alarms should be able to do it for you. If all you did was install keyless entry, there mut be a setting to kill the doorlock sensor but I'm afraid I don't know what it is. Your best bet will be the seller or manufacturer of the keyless kit.

I didn't take it off, I just stopped it self arming. The guy is on vacation, and will call me when he gets back.

anyone?

Yeah, I had this problem too. There is an easy way around it. Do not, I reapeat, DO NOT, ever lock the doors yourself. Get in the habit of locking the doors with the remote. But get used to it because every now and then I forget and I lock the doors manually and then "HONK HONK HONK!!!" So, it's a real easy fix. Hope that helps.

how about if i remove the fuse for the anti-theft system....guess i should just try it and test it out...

also, has anyone installed a keyless entry themselves? if so, how hard was it...how long did it take you?

Since you are in Ashville...you only have a short drive to Spartanburg, SC. The guys at Elite Audio had no problems with my alarm install on my 97 GST.

removing the fuse didn't work, i think it was for the "stock" infinity sound system's anti-theft feature...which has been long removed.

redgst97-how much? because i can get a decent alarm/keyless entry for about $60 on my own...which is why i'm trying to figure out how to install it. i'm pretty sure i can do it, with some time ofcourse.

I'm in the process of installing poppers (shaved handle kit) and could definately use some info on how to permanently disarm the alarm or on how to keep it from auto arming itself. (2G)

Wasn't that, the anti-theft is just a memory trigger that needs the security code entered to energize the radio circuitry if the power's off for more than an hour or so.

my infinity system never asked for a code at all. But now it's all aftermarket anyway so i'm not worried about that. Basically I just want to be able to remove the whole alarm without having the problem of something with the ignition being faulted.
