1G Carpet Replacement

I need a new Carpet for my newly aquired 1G ('90 TSI). I looked at the one from http://www.1aauto.com and was wondering if anyone had any other sources. Do these carpets include the Trunk Area or is that a separate item?

Before you go and buy new carpet try washing yours. I've done this several times on my dsms. Take the carpet out completely. Take the insulation off of the back. The insulation holds alot of the really gross stuff, makes your carpet weigh alot, and will probably start to fall off when you wash it anyway. Take the carpet with some garbage bags (big) to the car wash. Hang the carpet on the floor mat holders and spray away. I hit them with the soap and then rinsed them really well. Put the carpet in the garbage bags go home and either hang up the carpet to dry or vaccum the carpet with a wet/dry vac. and then hang. This has always been good enough for me. Its always made a huge difference and the soap helps get rid of odors. Then when the carpet is dry it just drops back in. I personally bought new carpet for one of my dsms and it was going to be too much of a pain to get it in there and look nice. Another thing is to trace around all of the cardboard that helps it hold its shape before you wash it in case they come off. If some do fall off you'll know exactly where they go and just re-staple. Sorry that was so long. I hope that helps. By the way it cost me $5 last time I did this and that was washing the car I took the carpet in.

i just did mine it was a pain in the ass. i got some carpet from strauss but it was not wide enought so how im like missing shit in the middle but i opened up those fuzzy flaps in the middle and im gonna put longer peice on that to cover shit up but it looks pretty god and i feel so much more clean and it feels new. and i changed the color from tan or what ever to black its cool.

hey guys,
before you go and spend $100+ on new carpet I'd really suggest washing your old one at the car wash. You have to take the old carpet out anyway if you go with new, and if it doesn't turn out the way you want you're only out $5 max. Just my $0.02 .

Dupli color makes an interior paint wjich is recommended for vinyl, plastic, and fabric. I have been painting my entire interior from the ugly light gray to black. The stuff works great even on the arm rest that flexes. Paint doesnt crack or peel (so far). Anyways i have been considering painting the carpet and maybe the back seats. Think it would hold up or rub off?. Also if i dont paint the carpet do you think the gray carpeting will look ok with black panels?

Believe me guys... This carpet is just GROSS... The seat rails had rust and its just not worth it.

Does anyone know if the "Carpet Set" that 1AAUTO sales covers the trunk area?

just change the side panels and all the other carpet shit with black carpet. you can get it from likestrauss

i put a new headliner in (black fabric fron jo-ann fabrics) painted the christmas tree clips back too. Also did the armrest, the kick panel underneath the steering wheel, the glove box, and now i am starting on the rear or the car. I will post some pics to get some opinions. By they way there is a little panel to the right of the glovebox, below the vent. Anyone know how to get that damn thing off? I have a haynes manual and that didnt even say.

I'd doubt it, but they would be the ones to ask. That piece shouldn't cost much at an interior shop, there's nothing special to it- it's just flat.

Check out autoupholsterykits.com. I just ordered a whole new carpet set from them including the trunk. They have one for you car that's full floor, but I'm sure they could come up with one for the trunk if you called and asked. If you need anything else just let me know.
