While i rebuild the engine in my talon, im going to paint it also. But i have a question about prepping it. Should i just sand it down with various grits, or would it be better to use aircraft stripper to go right down to the sheet metal.

ulf. I did this once. That was plenty. We had the same question, the paint shooter said the old paint was on fine, we could seal and shoot. It came out great.... for two weeks. Then it started to lift. We tried spot-repairing and a non-metallic color. Again, lovely ....for two weeks. We wound up doing a complete strip. Your luck may vary.

Leave it to the hands of a reputable shop (one with car show trophies on the wall). If they fuke it all up, they buy you a new paint job, but I doubt a group of professionals will fail you.

yeh im acualy geting a car tommorow that is white, and i HATE white. i wanna go black or blue. so how do i go about it? and where is the BEST quality paint i could buy. i know the dealership but thats guna be WAY to expensive. my friends all to k autp body and paint classes, they do prety good work , and they arent chargeing me labor., i just need to know where to get the paint, and how to prep it. where do u get aircraft stripper?thanks
dave

Not sure on definant's paintjob, but if you have FACTORY paint in good condition, I wouldn't strip it. That is a ton of work and not really necessary. Scuff it, seal and go. All paint manufacturers will honor warranties when their products are applied by a participating shop of EOM paint in good condition. If the car has been repainted once/twice/more, all bets are off.

Remember, the reason airplanes strip after every, or every two paint jobs is weight.
