My power door locks went to hell last night, anyone know or heard of a clicking noise coming from the center console when the lock button is pressed?

Things I've tried, driver and passenger side switch, nothing happens when switch is pressed except the center console makes a clicking noise? Turning key once to unlock passenger door (usually unlocks the driver door as well) but nothing happens but the damn click int eh console! Turning key twice to unlock on driver side (again usually unlock both doors) but again the console just clicks at me, I swear everytime I push the button my car is staring me dead in the eye like I'm the idiot.

Fuses are fine, even replaced them all just to be sure. Nothing else is affected, no lights turn signals nothing else electrical just my door locks.

Is there a relay switch that might have gone bad behind my console somewhere?

I was just wondering if anyone know what might be the problem with my door locks. One problem is the switch on the driver's side fell down in the door and I had to rig it back together. The other problem is my door locks don't work. I can hit the lock button and you can hear it working and trying to lock, but the locks just wiggle a little. Any ideas what it might be? I know I have to replace the passenger side window motor. Maybe I could fix this problem while I'm at it.

Is the linkage from the motor to the lock still connected? What car do you have?

I have a 95 gst. The linkage problem may be possible. I'm not sure though. It has been a while since I've had the door apart.

I have the same problem with my 90 gsx. I'll unlock the doors and they will lock them selves again. its wierd. sometimes it takes awhile to just get into my car. other times i will here them clicking like they are trying to lock. anyone have any ideas on what it could be? its starting to get really annoying. also when i unlock my door useing the key my alarm will still go off when i open the door. any suggestions? thanks

does anyone elses power door locks have problems?it would make a clicking noise but it wont lock...

on my old 95 eclipse gst when i first got it the power locks wouldnt work(it would click and attempt to lock but it wouldnt lock) and the battery would drain if i didnt drive it for 2-3 days...took me weeks to find out what it was...its was the stupid door locks trying to lock it self all night long...and it would drain the battery so slowly that it would take up to 3 days to kill the battery...

now on my new 95 talon nt that i bought up today...the door locks do the same thing...it would click but not lock...

does anyone else have this problem?
any one know how to fix this?
thanks

I sometimes have this problem on my driver's side door. I usually just push it into the locked position manually then, although it takes some force...

ive been researching this alot...and it seems that ALOT of people have this problem...the only fix ive found is to buy a new power door lock motor...its cost 135 or 165 EACH i think...and it is absolutly a pain in the ass to put in...most people just end up locking there doors manually...

Similar problem, it comes and goes during the summer. When i hit the lock button, it moves the drivers door lock a little, but cant get it to move all the way. I figured it out though. If you take apart the door panel, there is a big piece of see-thru plastic with tar (or some kind of adhesive) holding it on. When the car sits in the sun during the summer and this stuff heats up, it melts and gets on the linkage for the locks. When the car cools off, it hardens and wont let the locks work properly, if you get in there and get the adhesive off the linkage it works again.

That makes sense, because I live in Mississippi and it gets hot as hell down here. I think I'm going to try that this weekend. Do you think it is necessary to take both doors apart and and check the linkage on both doors. Certainly so! When I get finished I'll let you know how it worked out.

Thanks

how did you test the motors? multimeter? they aren't that expensive...go to dsmtrader.com...i saw the motors for windows AND locks for $30...

No actually we just put a 12+ and ground on it manually and it worked fine. Anyway we went all through the harness, relay, switch, etc. everything is fine yet they don't work. We never could find it, so I just hooked them up to my alarm and they work fine with it. Plus they still lock and unlock when you crank the car, etc. Its just my switch is useless now, yet its not the problem. Who knows.

sooo, on my 92 talon n/t, two of the locks cant be opened. te driver side, and the hatch. i went to the movies with some friends the other day, i get outside (first time locking the car since i just got it) and the door would not unlock with the key. its not just frozen because ive tried on warmer days and used de0icer. this car doesnt have power locks so it cant be wiring. i hope this isnt expensive becuz i just had to replace an ecu!!! does anyone know what this is?

Here are a couple things I've encountered in my '93 tsi:
As always these are just my ideas based on door problems I've had in the past, use them at your own risk.

The questions I've got is -- can you open the door fine from the inside? If so, its probably a problem with the linkage from the lock cylinder to the door latch, or the lock cylinder itself. Since you just got the car, take a look at the key you have, if its not an original(has a code written on the shaft) your key may be the culprit.
It's been very difficult for me to get a good copy made of my talon keys, they usually kinda work if you jiggle them around a bit. It also seems strange that both the door and hatch are broken, but who knows.

If you're sure its a good copy of the key, but you can't turn the cylinder even a little bit, I think you've got a bad lock cylinder. If it turns fine, all the way, its probably the linkage between the cylinder and the latch mechanism. take off your inside door panel and have a look.

If you can't open the door from the inside, you're in for quite a pain in the ass. If your car is nice and you don't want to mess it up, you probably want to take it to the dealer( assuming you know for sure its not frozen) At this point you have to get the inside door panel off before you have any chance of fixing the problem. If you're lucky someone has had it off before and you can side it up enough to get your hand in the door and manually open the lock.

If you get to this point let me know and I'll give more detail on how I got mine open.

Chris

the doors do open from the inside. i can open the passener door from the outside with the key, so i dont think its the key. from what you are telling me it sounds like the linkage. the key is not original, at first i though maybe part of the old key might have broken off inside of there, but i looked inside using a pin and light and i cant see anything.

Always pay the couple of bucks extra (actually, it was less in Stockton) to have a real lock shop cut your keys. Those guys understand worn-out tumblers and pins, and allow for it when they jig up the blank.

hey did you ever figure out what was wrong with your locks? mine just started doing the same thing but my locks are still working on the outside i hope they dont go out soon because i only have one door handle at the moment. If you can tell me what you did to fix it email me or instant message me at [email protected]

The clicking is the anti-theft system arming itself, which should only happen when locking of course...either the actuators are shot...or most likely something is binding the actuators and preventing them from opening the locks. Usual case is the black tar that's on the door plastic melts and gums them up. Only 6 screws to take the door panel off, take a looksy :)

Thats not happening with mine, My locks are still working but the locks are going off on their own. I'll be going down the road and the locks will just go off on their own after making a wierd crackling sound in the console. the sound is sort of like the cd is getting scratched but its coming from deeper than the cd player. I'm gonna pop her open when i get home tonight but im at school right now. Has anyone else had this problem before?

Sounds like a wire has gotten bare somehow and is grounding out, like if you hit a bump and it vibrates/touches metal... fun hunting!

Okay so here is my deal...got my car back from being painted. Ever since, if I push the door lock button, they both make noise and the locks wont go. Then if I manually lock them, use the key in the passenger door and then use the key in the driver door the factory alarm goes off. What the heck is going on?

Try giving you're harness a good PUSH. The harness that plugs into the door fron the car. In-between the door jam.
